Looking at changing to AT&T for my cell, specifically an Iphone, curious what folks can tell me about the reception from them along the front range especially in Colorado Springs.

I have AT&T. I have an old phone (about 5 years old) but my wife has an iphone (her bday present last year). Neither of us has had a problem here in the Springs nor nationally (we travel to TX/TN/NC quite a bit for concerts, family, etc).

I have the iPhone and it works great. The reception is pretty damn good all over. Not sure how it is in the Springs but I'm sure there's a cell tower down that way. Some problem areas are Granby and that area up there and if I'm deep in the woods but, thats a given!

AT&T is good with their cell coverage,

but their 3G coverage does leave something to desired in some places.

My GF has AT&T and the iphone and it sucks out in east boulder, the 3g is SLOW, And reception is shitty too. I have t-mobil and where I live its great, It even works in my basement. If i call her when she is in a Wal-mart, she dose not get any service, and I will text her and she won't get it for a few hours. this is how it looks when she goes out and I call her.

Me "(Swettie, Honey, Love of my life, take your pick) we need more TP for the Bathroom"
Her "what You made PEE PEE What?"
Me "Toilet paper"
Her "what? Graper?"
Me "ARRRRRRRRR"

Slow 3G on the iPhone? Idk if there's something wrong with her phone or not but I have the 3Gs and it's much quicker than any of the other phones I've compared it to (blackberry, pre, droid, etc.). The problem is finding it, just about every time I browse around my phone will switch from full 3G to shit for no reason at all.

Verizon seems to work up here better than AT&T.
I guess none of them are fantastic unless you live in FL or somewhere like that.

As far as traveling is concerned...Verizon is 10 times better than AT&T. I fly all over the US and haven't had a dropped call in verizon is probably 1.5 years...since I got the new LG Dare.

the 3g on AT&T is faster on the iphone IMO when you are in a good 3G spot but AT&T coverage is sparse compared to Verizon. A lot of people I work with have Iphones and love them...hell I love them and want one, but only on the Verizon network.

Right now I am patiently waiting for upgrade to hopefully the new google phone, if not then the droid.

The new Google phone won't be on Verizon though. I wish it were possible for Verizon to quickly and efficiently switch to the network that everyone else in the world uses.

that's true. Have had no problems in any western state and none back east now that I think about it.

I purchased a new iphone 3 weeks ago and have had mixed results. In some areas that are more rural such as Evergreen, up 285 and even in Castle Pines north the coverage is spotty for 3G. I25 to Southern NM was just ok, I10 West to Tucson was ok, but not exceptional. It's a problem in poor coverage areas as the phone won't send or receive most data, so the mapping software will not work, emails won't send as they time out, and some other features don't work. It's a great phone when it works, and if you are mostly in town, you will be fine.

I had AT&T. They worked pretty darn good in the Springs and Denver. Out here in rural Pueblo county, nothing works except for Verizon.

Ive had an Iphone for years, great phone, not so great service. In my areas of travel they are worse around my house in Centennial, lots of dropped call especially around firestations and such. But the benefits of the phone outweigh the service for me. I can handle a few dropped calls for the versatility and simplicity of the phone. I broke one of my Iphones once and had to use my wifes back up phone (blackjack) and was so F'n confused I went that day and bought a new Iphone.

yes it will. go look at google phone by using google.... it says it is coming for verizon. you can buy it now for $529 and put in your sim card for other networks, but since verizon doesn't have a sim card you can't do that and must wait.

Stuart, a quick search before placing foot in mouth is always appreciated.

see where is says Verizon...spring 2010. I would have to think that means Verizon will have the phone this spring....[Luck]

I wouldn't exactly say I put my foot in my mouth on that one. I didn't think they were making a non-sim card version. Thanks for the update.

If AT&T has the fewest dropped calls, I'm a monkey's uncle.

I'm on my 3rd iPhone and yes I love the platform and absolutely hate the network. I've often thought about getting a Verizon pay as you go phone as a security blanket when traveling or hunting. Anybody tried this strategy?

Maybe when Google comes out with theirs, I'll bail on the iPhone platform. They'd really need to do a good job though and I'd want to still be able to integrate with the corporate exchange network where I work.

I considered going with at&t for the iPhone, I was waiting for my contract with Verizon to end (June) in hopes that they would pick it up.
Well, I lost my phone yesterday and am up for "new every two" deal so I decided to take a gander.........wouldn't you know it, this damn Droid followed me home. Haven't had any problems with Verizon & if you're looking for a smart phone check out the Droid!

ATT in Denver is spotty. Every time I drive down University and cross Bellview my call drops. Right now I'm living in Pueblo and Verizon has way better coverage.

I went elk hunting in Walden and stayed at the KOA. My buddy had verizon I had ATT and did not. He and I have been to fishing/hunting in Lamar, Como, Walden and Winterpark. I would say his Verizon coverage has been better overall. I once had Sprint, the customer service was so bad I will never go back to those bastards.

It is beyond sorry compared to the droid. My fiance got the droid and loves it. I don't know if I can manage to hold on any longer[Tooth]

All I can say is that I've had more dropped calls in the 3 years I've had AT&T than the 8 years I had Verizon.

I actually had a random dropped call last night with Verizon. I was sitting at my computer at my house where I usually get 100% reception. I tried to order a take and bake pizza and the call was dropped. I looked at my phone and saw that I was really low on bars and not in digital. I called again and everything went swell. Maybe someone was playing with a cell blocker or something.

The only place that my verizon doesn't work well is, in and around the house... [LOL]

Irving

You and I live less than a mile away. I've never driven through a dead zone when driving by your place Marlin. However, if you are on the phone while entering or leaving my parents neighborhood, you'll drop the call every time. That's the only consistent place I know of though.

Marlin

Hard to explain,, If I'm down at the gas station, it's perfect..

If I'm in the house, it's about 50/50

outside its about 70/30. Maybe, 85/15 some days..

Have no idea as to why... Think it *might* be the little "bowl" I'm in. Even, over in the park it doesn't have any problems..

Irving

Yeah that's the same as at my parents. When I lived there, it would have mostly great reception (maybe you'd miss a call and it wouldn't show up, or more likely miss a text) but once you drive down the street, it would always drop during that one block stretch of road. That is over in Golden though near Colorado Mills mall. Living less than 1/2 mile as the crow flies when I moved out in college and had zero reception issues.
