I decided to buy a laser level. I pour concrete, hang siding, build sheds, pole barns and will be building a house in the next couple of years. I have always done it the inexpensive way with string, line levels, etc. I cant really justify buying "professional grade". I have looked at many different brands in the under $1000 range. I need durability for sure. Tools and guns get used and they need to be durable. A good warranty and ease of return would be good too. I have Milwaukee tools, so probably no Dewalt 20v levels. Dewalt is fine if its just rechargeable or disposable batteries. I would like it to be as useful as possible. Such as visible laser, vertical, horizontal, etc.

These are some of the units I have looked at.

Topcon RLH-5a

Bosch Revolve 900

Johnson 99-00K

Dewalt DW074KD

Spectra Precision LL100n

Hilti($3000+) is std for layout at our company with the Dewalts for interior finishes(casework/millwork/trims/ceiling grids).

I prefer a sight level and use string/string levels for exterior work, lasers just too hard to see at distance.

If you're unarmed, you are a victim.

All I can say is make sure it is bright enough. I bought a laser level from Home Depot (don't remember the brand/model) some years back to use to align things like ceiling cans and so on. Found out it wasn't able to project a line bright enough to see more than a few feet in average daylight.
