First, some background:
According to ATF.gov, the function of the ATF is "primarily responsible for administering and enforcing the criminal and regulatory provisions of the federal laws pertaining to destructive devices (bombs), explosives, and arson."
This means that they are a federal law enforcement agency; right?!
We all know that the ATF has made themselves a de facto legislative body as well by establishing policies that declare previously fully legal items to be classified as "illegal firearms" - but that's an argument for a different time as I want to focus on the LAW ENFORCEMENT aspect of this agency.

Today, word came out that the website for the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC; who the Federal Register states is an "independent federal investigative and prosecutorial agency") was having significant "access" issues.
In the screen capture of the OSC website used to identify the issue and possible workarounds they selected the page in the image attached below.

I don't know if you can read it, but the text in the blue background on the left of the page states:
ATF Unlawfully Paid Agents Millions of Dollars in Wrongful Benefits
While many will argue that the current modis operandi for government agencies is to act as if the laws are only for the peasants and don't apply to them, I find it particularly interesting that a federal agency chartered to enforce the law chooses to violate the law to a taxpayer loss of millions of dollars for their own benefit. But I must say, the fact that they've been caught and their activity has been made known publicly thrills me (not that this will stop them or any other agency from continuing their unlawful acts).
