Wondering if anyone has tried the 22-204? It's a 204 Ruger necked up to 22 cal. I'm considering this over the 223AI which I see a surprising amount.
Upsides over the 223AI are single step case formation (neckup and go) plus marginally more case capacity. Downsides are reamer and size die availability, as well as mags need some modification. I see most of the downside issues as one-time issues.
I've picked up brass to test feeding finalize mag modifications.
22-204 with 80 ELDM at 2.620" and 223 AI with 75 ELDM at 2.450":

I like the shoulder angle on the 22-204 better for reliability
I would put a 40' shoulder on that and eliminate any body taper to get another 150-200 fps out of it.
Or just get a 22BR...

Why not consider the 22 Nosler or 224 Valkyrie? Or in a bolt gun you can step up to a 22-250 or 22 creedmoor.

I have looked into these cartridges.
22 Nosler - I'm skeptical my Terminus action could handle the rebated rim. As the case rides up the feed ramp and the base of the cartridge drops slightly down into the magazine, I suspect the rim will drop below the bolt face resulting in feed issue.
224 Valkyrie - My Terminus action only offers bolt faces supporting 308 & 223 cases. There's also an issue of mags. I've only found polymer AICS mags for the Valk and the few polymer mags I've tried won't allow the bolt to even move forward in the Terminus. This appears to be related to the extra thick polymer feed lips.
22 creedmoor - I dismissed this cartridge as a barrel burner.
22-250 - Also dismissed this as a barrel burner but there's also an issue of cartridge length. I need a cartridge at least 2.45" or more to feed reliably in the Terminus action. It's possible I could achieve this with heavy 22 bullets which is what I intend to shoot but never pursued it.
