What's the going rate nowadays for outgoing shipments to FFLs for long guns and handguns?

I use the Outdoorsmans Attic on old Hampden in Sheridan.

Don't remember the cost but like the consigment store and the folks that work there so support them as I can.

Depends to where and what it is. Long guns are ok to ship to an out of state ffl, Providing said ffl accepts from a non-ffl. Handguns, ffl-ffl., no questions there. There are some ffls, who still accept long guns from non-ffl's. Sadly that seems to be disappearing too, based on the FFL's ins co requirements, etc. One of my ffl's has no issue with long guns, a store front i deal with, their higher up say nothing from anyone except another ffl. I use them for transfers from davidsons, or other online vendors. Down here it's anywhere from $20-50.

A friend recently had Green Mountain Guns ship a handgun and a rifle for him, different destinations-$180 for both, hmm. I’ve had both the UPS and FedEx hubs tell me they no longer accept firearms from individuals. I didn’t bother arguing. I’ve used Damage Factory in the past, ran about $60 including all fees.

Doc45, thank you for that great info, it's exactly what I was looking for!

BTW, I haven't seen much discussion about USPS around here, but I find their Registered Mail service to be the best for shipping long guns. Very reasonably priced and they have paranoid-level security for insured Registered Mail. I just wish they'd start shipping handguns as well for non-FFLs.

I don't know if this will work for you but this company might be helpful in many situations.

This service seems to be for you to generate a label to ship to a FFL, but still has you take it to the UPS customer care center. Has anyone used this service since UPS implemented their new policy.

UPS accepts packages containing Firearm Products for shipment only as a contractual service and only from Shippers who are licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, or licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code) to authorized recipients, as outlined in the approved UPS agreement for the transportation of Firearm Products.

To transport packages containing Firearm Products, the Shipper must enter into an approved UPS agreement for the transportation of Firearm Products.

Ship my gun, Yes, I?ve used it. When you take it to the counter with a label already on it they don?t seem to ask as many questions. I just dropped it off and asked for a scanned in receipt to show they received it.

I used to use a local FFL to ship handguns because they could ship them priority mail, cheaper than overnight or 2nd day like UPS and FedEx were requiring. He charged the priority mail plus $25, typically worked out to about $45-$50.

While cheap, the major problems with ship my gun are:

1. Your package insurance claim will be denied when the usual Fedex/UPS slightly trained monkeys steal your gun.
2. You'll be in violation of federal law which requires you to declare guns to the carrier at the time of shipment.

So you don't declare it as a firearm?

Of course I do. In order to avoid the problems I listed if you try to bypass the UPS/Fedex shipping policies.

Edit: I should have said "Of course I *did*". I can't ship UPS/Fedex since I don't have an FFL.
I have to go through FFLs to ship handguns and USPS to ship long guns.

I take it from the above responses this has changed?

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/may-nonlicensee-ship-firearm-common-or-contract-carrier

May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

In addition, federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.

Must have missed the parts...

" I?ve had both the UPS and FedEx hubs tell me they no longer accept firearms from individuals"

"UPS accepts packages containing Firearm Products for shipment only as a contractual service and only from Shippers who are licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, or licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code) to authorized recipients, as outlined in the approved UPS agreement for the transportation of Firearm Products."

"Depends to where and what it is. Long guns are ok to ship to an out of state ffl, Providing said ffl accepts from a non-ffl. "

More about shippers and FFL's policy than .gov regulation.

If you're unarmed, you are a victim.

Eddie: the law hasn't changed, but carrier policy has. To summarize:

UPS and Fedex will only ship from licensees, regardless of whether they're handguns or long guns.
USPS will ship handguns only from licensees.
USPS will ship long guns from individuals who are not licensees.

If you fail to declare a firearm to any of the three by declaring something idiotic like "machined parts", for example, then you'll have your insurance claim denied and you'll be in violation of federal law.
