I am in town for a few days and like to browse the used gun sections at different stores to pass the time.

Pawn Shops recommendations? Gun stores with large used collections?

thanks in advance

While not in Denver but worth the drive. Scheels in Johnstown always has a good selection of used guns. There is also a Scheels on the north end of the Springs if you are further south. I?ve never been to the Springs location. The prices aren?t always the greatest but I have scored a couple of great deals and passed on others as I didn?t have the cash at the time. It always seems like there is something for a good deal but not always what I would be looking to add to the collection.

depends how far you're willing to travel from the "denver" area.

Looking to stay in the main Denver area, so lets say a radius of 30 miles from Denver. I am staying in Glendale for work training and can travel to some of the outlying cities

I think you are already aware of Cabela's Lone Tree, but I have seen a bargain or two there.

Let me know if you find one.

Gunsport in Boulder actually does have a good selection though like every other dealer in Colorado they are proud of their prices.

Agree on Green Mountain, arguably the best consignment cases. If a gun is there after two weeks offers are allowed. I’ve come across more deals there than anywhere else on used stuff.

Also need an idea of any shops in town who give fair offers on used guns. Trying to sell a few guns while I am in town. (Bergara, Ruger 10/22, Rem 870) due to my recent back surgery and not being able to shoot as much as I had hoped.

I know Cabelas and Sportsmans both buy guns but I dont want to get only 60% of value.

Cabela's in Thornton has a great selection of used guns in their Gun Library. The prices aren't nearly as bad as they used to be and the guys who work there are professional and attentive.

Green Mountain Guns, which is once again under new ownership, isn't what it once was. The number of consignment guns seems to be about a third of what it used to be. They changed their consignment policy and they won't let the seller price the gun, so they lost a ton of that business. They dictate the price and they also do their best to steer the consignment guns to their Gunbroker "penny" auctions instead of in-store displays. I walked out with my attempted consignments just last week, which made me realize why their selection is so sad compared to the old days and why I buy only a small fraction of the guns I used to from GMG.

That is unfortunate. I had not been there recently, and my recommendation was based on previous experiences up to 2020.

Yeah, it sucks. I used to love to shop case after case of consignment guns they used to have. I also sold many dozens of guns there. The new management should get a thank you card from Gunbroker...

Old Steel in Littleton is certainly worth your time to visit!

https://oldsteelguns.com/

I think they have over 200 guns to sell at the moment, most are used.
The shop itself is very much a mini museum and enjoyable to explore.

Sorry to hear Green Mountain has gone downhill, there was a good selection when I stopped in last but that was in early July. Old Steel has some cool stuff but I’ve found them to be overpriced and many of their items are imports with a wide range of import marks that for me at least detract from the desire to own them.

Cabela's is going to pay you more than any independent shop

Yes, the new address is on the Old Steel web site.
Also, there is a link to all the guns that they have listed for sale on GunBroker.
The shop now has a very nice breech loading howitzer on display.

Been to both of Old Steel's previous shops, they have some cool stuff for sure! But damn pricey.

I found an older LSI/Rossi 92 Short Rifle in .44-40 there once that was in on consignment. It was pretty filthy, but you could tell it was unfired - no brass markings on the loading gate or carrier, no soot anywhere. But the consignee hadn't put a price on it, so I couldn't buy it. Called them for weeks, the guy never priced it and finally pulled it out and kept it. I had the cash in hand too, made my ass red.....

The Firing Line in Aurora can also have some interesting items in their used cases. I have picked-up some good deals there.

I went to Old Steel for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I agree that it is a nice shop but overpriced. The kicker for me was that they charged a $35 fee for "paperwork" when I bought a gun. While it included the $10.50 CBI fee I have never, ever had a shop charge a fee when purchasing a gun they had in stock. Private transfers yes. Receiving a gun bought online yes. But charging a fee for a gun in inventory? C'mon

Yup-a cool place to look around but there are other shops I’ll give my hard earned dollars to.

Stopped by Old Steel's new location yesterday, nice place. All their stuff is very high priced, but I saw one thing I thought was reasonable - a RIA .45 1911 for $449.

That's the average price for that RIA labels the Ultra II. Longer beavertail, ambi safety, Hi viz sights, nice (for stock( trigger. IIRC i paid $450 for mine.

That's a really impressive pro-level of greed. I would have walked right after hearing this.
