Paint or wrap sugeestions

All the clear coat came off the hood on my FJ.

I thought about doing an insurance claim but body shops are still months out.

I also thought about getting a wrap applied figuring that would be less expensive and time consuming.

Anyone here paint or know a painter or have a shop to recommend?

Wrap will be the least expensive and you can do it yourself. I've wrapped a couple of race cars and the Wrangler I had. I'm getting ready to do my Audi Allroad as soon as I can find time.

If you wrap you'll have to do it yourself. A company will only wrap good condition paint.

We did a hood of a Jeep with rattle can clear coat. It came out good. Took the hood off and suspended it with wire. Sprayed it in the parking lot on a calm day.

I think I may try to wrap it myself. If I screw it up, I wasted forty bucks and a couple hours. I have done worse sitting in a bar.

I have watched two Youtube videos so I am certainly now an expert.

However, I have several questions.

How long does it take for the adhesive set up?

What I mean by that is how many times can I screw up before I destroy the entire thing?

The Vvivid vinyl I've used is very forgiving. The adhesive gets set after the panel is fully wrapped by applying heat from a heat gun.

That was a much bigger pain than I was expecting. A quarter of the way through I was ready to quit.

Back when I worked in a jet ski shop, I used to apply decals on boats back from the body shop. I sprayed soapy water on both the hull and the decal, set it in place and squeegeed the water out from under it.

I decided to try it with this and it turned out good- much better than when I trying to do it as I saw on videos.

Good deal. I probably would have just taken the opportunity and bought a carbon fiber hood for it.
