He was a local MMA fighter who worked with his father to help stop youth violence.

Given the above, PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IN THE WORLD HE WAS DOING OUT ON THE STREET AT 4:00 AM SATURDAY MORNING? [facepalm]

When I had a two-month old, the only thing I was trying to do at 4:00 am on a Saturday was get some sleep.

That could be a possibility, but I think the silence in the story about what he was doing at the time of the incident is notable. If he was actually trying to help somebody or making a run to 7/11 for some diapers, you would think it would be highlighted in the coverage. Regardless, if you are a new father, your first priority is the mom and the baby, and NOT engaging in any dangerous conduct.
