I have had a Heritage Arms .22 for over 25 years. It has not been functional in at least 12 years. Two different gun smiths said fixing it would be more than the gun could be purchased for. So it has sat in my safe for years. I was going to turn it in to local PD just to make more space, but I should go to a paid confiscation....I mean buyback one of these times...not a whole lot of those in SW MO though.

Wouldn't transferring them to another party without identification violate the Colorado "Universal Background Check" law that they pushed to get passed?

I don't see any mention of police or FFL involvement.

Exactly what I was going to post. If it wouldn't potentially entrap lawful citizens trying to dispose of unwanted firearms, emergency calls to the PD, sheriff, CHP, ATF, and media could be quite interesting. I would love for these Karen's to be hoisted on their own petard.

Please don't. It gives legitimacy to gun grab organizations.

It says on their website "This purpose [will be] carried out in partnership with the Fort Collins Chapter of Moms Demand Action."

MDA and it's parent Everytown For Gun Safety are evil organizations bent on disarming the populace. Don't let their nonsense fool you, claiming to be for common sense gun laws.

If you have guns that truly are junk, there are other ways to get rid of them.

Whatever you do, don't go to these "buyback" programs.

Can’t you donate firearms to tax free organizations? Get a write off.

Yes it does.. Boulder of all places actually put the kibosh on a proposed buy back that some local activists were trying to put together a few years ago due to this issue.

We could always put on our own COAR15 "Buy Back" program. We could have FFL's on hand (like at a gun show) to perform the BGC's and make the thing legal*.

Thing of all of the guns it'd get off of the streets - and into our safes.

* Yeah, I know there's a restriction on FFL's performing business away from their place of business. This post is in jest.

That might be a reason for Honest Hamid's FFL to show up :)

What happens next month when they also throw the 3 day waiting period on top?

Do they have a definition of these categories posted anywhere? I looked at your link and couldn't find anything. I'm specifically interested int the "assault/tactical gun" definition they'll use to see if something I have in mind qualifies.

Does a stripped lower count as a assault/tactical gun?

If they accept lowers, 80% lowers and such, I can stop and pick up a bunch of 0% lowers on my way up.

Did anyone attend? I hear they have police in the parking lots to discourage any 'scalping's' at events like this.

And just what are the police gonna do? And on what grounds?

Good point, probably nothing? Lots of junk shows up at these things but I'm sure some rare ones do too.

What would an LEO do if he/she witnesses or suspects an illegal gun transaction? I don't know.

Just wondering how they made out.

Well unless you are a FFL holder and conduct a “Private Sale” under the radar you’re a dumbass and get what you deserve. On the other hand if you contact somebody and agree on a sale price and go to a FFL to facilitate transfer you are following the word and spirit of the law.

From what I read, they would "destroy" the firearm in the presence of the owner thus eliminating the "transfer" from the equation.

I checked their FB profile and there are no pictures or posts about how many guns they took in... I'd bet it wasn't very successful thus the lack of "bragging" about how many they got. I saw a picture of a barrel cut in half and them forging it into a garden tool but that was it.

I doubt it was very successful.

If they are taking possession of the firearm regardless of intent it is a Transfer.

From the NFA book but the definition of Transfer is constant:

Section 9.1 Definition of “transfer.” The term “transfer” is broadly defined by the NFA to include “selling, assigning, pledging, leasing, loaning, giving away, or otherwise disposing of” an NFA firearm.165 The lawful transfer of an NFA firearm generally requires the filing of an appropriate transfer form with ATF, payment of any transfer tax imposed, approval of the form by ATF, and registration of the firearm to the transferee in the NFRTR. Approval must be obtained before a transfer may be made. See Section 9.5 for a discussion of certain NFA transactions not considered by ATF to be “transfers.”

I would keep a rusty gun as a paperweight then go to one of those clown shoes shows.
