9:00am- Phone call from 1st Bank.

"We have several unauthorized purchases on your account. We are shutting it down."

10:00am- Email from Square.

"Your business checking account shows a $1.00 purchase from a foreign vendor. Click here to authorize..."

By 9:00 tonight, there have been transactions totaling thousands of dollars.

The banks keep shutting them down yet the assholes keep trying to buy stuff.

I never should have thrown away that chain letter...

I used to get hit about once every year. I?ve dedicated myself to using PayPal and Apple Pay as much as humanly possible and so far I?ve managed to avoid being hacked.

Maybe that's why the IRS has hired so many new (armed) agents? One could only hope.

Check with your financial institution(s), as they may have free 'ID protection' services, but you have to ask as they may not offer unless it's part of a remediation. Mine uses idnotify dot com and they monitor everything to include medical records and passport.

We get hit about every other year too. Last one was a few months ago.

Paying Credit/Debit for everything and doing Online Banking is convenient until your info gets stolen and exploited...........

Update- 1st Bank was great. They were on the same day. The girl went through every purchase to ask if I had made it, including the McDonald's I bought that morning.

Square sucks, they told me to change my password. I had to go in and manually dispute the charges, and finally yesterday I received an email saying that they would put the money back in the account.

Yesterday, I got a box in the mail from a company called bio trust. In it were some joint pills. The address was wrong, but it did have my name on it so it ended up in my mailbox. The interesting thing is at the bottom of the invoice. There is the ordering customers IP address. It is not mine, so I am curious what I can do with that address.

Comcast DHCP IP so probably not much... Authorities or injured party (bank), should they care to pursue, could possibly (with a time stamp) compel the ISP to divulge but that'd likely take a subpoena (unless you're Liberty safe). Not entirely sure how that all works but they'll undoubtedly not expend any resources pursuing it. Cost more to follow the money than to just cover it.

Not directed at you specifically, just a comment re debit: NEVER use a debit card outside your bank ATM. That's a direct pipe to your account(s) and more often than not more difficult to resolve. Let the CC statement take the hit, not your deposit accounts.

I've been doing online banking since forever and have never had an issue. That said, though I'm not a "desktop" guy, my sh*t's secure and I've never (knocks on wood) been compromised on my end (systems) save the occasional CC misuse which I attribute to an unscrupulous employee handling my card along my travels and can almost pinpoint the theft prior to the misuse. Always appreciate the tableside swipe/kiosk so many are now using over handing a card to someone.

P.S. Speaking of thieves, did everyone see the TSA agents that got arrested for stealing out of pax bags?

IP address: 67.174.186.44
City: Aurora
Region name: Colorado
◉ Latitude: 39.7427
◎ Longitude: -104.8129
org/isp: Comcast Cable
Connection: Cable/DSL

The coordinates are likely a general location and not the specific location the IP address was being used within. It's definitely within Aurora though.

I got two more packages in the mail today. One was some books about natural healing and brain health. The other was one of the tiny evaporative coolers they advertise on late night TV.

Someone spent my money on garbage. There were three more charges on this card. I can't wait to see what else I get!

That is on my 1st bank debit which I never use online. I have junk cards to use when buying junk.
