Been thinTA11king of getting a ACOG TA11, TA44, or a LPVO. I dont like the eye relief on a TA31 4x, but i like the TA11 3.5x. Any thoughts on a TA44 or a LPVO?

I always wear persciption glasses so i need to keep this in mind.

Any thoughts or recomemdations?

I'm no expert but I have thoughts on LPVO's.

Consider if you want daytime brightness on illumination. Not every one of them has that.

If you're on a budget and second focal plane I wouldn't recommend past 6x. The glass at lower price points can't really handle 8x or more and there's a whole thing about BDC reticles only working at max zoom.

On my 3-gun rifle I traded higher magnification for better glass and daylight-bright red dot on a Steiner PX4i. It's been doing great for quite a while now and 4x is plenty for the matches I shoot that get to 400 yards.

Someone may correct me but I think the ones to look at around the $1000 mark are Eotech and Trijicon. The next leap up is the Vortex Razor.

I was recently in the market for another one but I have other priorities in my life right now it would have been foolish to drop ~$1000+ on a good one. My research said brought me to the conclusion that if I can't afford the one I wanted then I should spend $250 on the OPMOD Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6. It's Optics Planet's branded version but it's the current one and still comes with the same lifetime warranty. So far so good!

I could go on for a while but I hope that helps a little.

LPVO is superior in every way except one. Battery life. If you want to use the “works like a red dot at 1x” feature, be prepared to chew through coin cells.

I have LPVOs in 1-4, 1-6, 1-8, and 1-10. Higher max magnification seems to come without significant drawbacks except higher cost, and I like very much the ability to zoom in to either positively identify a target or make a more precise shot.

LPVOs will have adjustable ocular lenses. For me, it allows me to shoot with or without prescription glasses by adjusting it for either condition. My eyes don’t need much correction, so your case may be different.

I’ve wanted an ACOG for 15 years, but can’t bring myself to buy one. My current favorite setup is the Vortex Razor Gen 3 with a Trijicon RMR mounted on it at 12:00. It does everything well.

Primary Arms has a 3x prism with adjustable ocular lens. It's got a 38' field of view at 100y and weighs 8oz.

Thoughts on a Vortex PST 1-6x?

For the latest and greatest the gun gamers run I usually check out Brian Enos forum. The 3 gun not the singer. It?s been a while since I looked. But I assume an lvpo is still the go to.
If you are not trying to fit into a gun category for games though an Rds and lvpo covers everything - see. TimK setup.

Thoughts on a Vortex PST 1-6x?

Great for the money. I’ve played with 3 or 4 recently, and they are pretty impressive.

I have a TA-11 donut and it is a really good scope. Solid and compact.

I also have several S&B 1-4 and 1-8 Short Dots.

If I was starting over, I would not spend the money on an ACOG and put that $$$ towards a FFP 1-4 or 1-8.

Below is my 1-8 on an 18 inch rifle. It isnt so heavy that it makes the gun feel top heavy and it doesent look out of place on it. The only time this rifle sees a bipod is when checking a zero or working up loads.

I also have a 1-4 on a 416 Rigby.

I’m happy with ACOG. LPVO is over rated.

One of the woman i work with at the range, runs one on her AR. For the price point it's an amazingly clear 3x optic. If i wasn't heavy in to rds, along with an older burris 332 optic. One, if not 2 of them would be on carbines.

I really like my 1-8 Trijicon Accupower (credo now). It's heavy but it's a nice clear sight picture and works great throughout the power range. It works fine with or without illumination. The reticle is large but I like that on this type of optic. It works great from 1-600 yards. I have a Viper PST 1-6 too. It's nice, the red dot illumination at 1x does it's job. I dislike most FFP LPVOs because the reticles are too small for my old eyes to see, and I find them useless at 1x if the illumination isn't good. I don't particularly like the eye relief issues with ACOGs either.

I will ask what others haven't. What is the use case for the Rifle/Optic?...... Your question can't be properly answered without knowing the use case. If you are buying an optic without a specific use case, then who cares because its likely going to be a waste of money anyway.

This is really no different than someone asking "I want to buy a vehicle, which one should I get?"
