View Full Version : Bags & Take out boxes illegal per CO Interest Group
I see we have a whole new slew of laws in place on January 1 that ban bags altogether, including takeout boxes for food, etc.
In the articles that talk about this, they all cite the Colorado Public interest research group that provides all of their statistics on how bad bags are for the environment.
this whole idea pisses me off, but what makes me even more mad is they are propping up what is clearly a democrat funded organization and basing laws off of their conclusions.

Welcome to Colorado.............. you are a RKI............... a reasonably knowledgeable individual...........

Outfits like CoPIRG are successful and very influential here in Colorado. The media and other "public interest" groups support and promote them and each other very well. They are experts at making folks think they are "informed" and making a "difference" by supporting them and swallowing the garbage they espouse.
Influence Watch is a good place to self educate.

I remember when we were told we'd be taxed a dime for every plastic bag used... but when that law went into effect they immediately began taxing paper bags as well.
I reuse the bags for lunches and wastebasket liners... they are not being tossed into the river. They get filled with trash then are placed inside a full sized trashbag with other trash.

Why do they turned a blind eye to all the trash and filth ONE homeless person generates?
I’m glad the post commissary doe play by those laws. They hand em out like candy.
I’m in CA right now and it is miserable. How can anyone live like this?

But remember, we switched to plastic bags in the first place to save the world because paper bags were killing the environment due to deforestation...
Never. Ending. Loop.

I think the problem was they are finding carcinogens in the wildlife and waters. Then you eat few quail, rabbit, etc. It is an eco thing. I always distill my drinking water. The crap I remove is unreal. The local well water cannot be used due to radionuclides, according to local authorities. The bags I find on the praire, are usually brittle and crumble if they are exposed enough.

Yes, I find it funny that we switched. I always feel like it's a test at my grocery store when they ask "paper or plastic?" I worry I'm going to say the wrong thing. I want paper but I always get plastic because we use the bags over and over for a variety of things...and anything we have left over the family in Colorado takes them when they visit.

If the establishment offers bags, they have to be 100% recycled paper bags. People are going to be filling their pockets with produce at the checkout lines.
People are going to be filling their pockets with produce at the checkout lines.
If you stick the produce in your pockets before getting to the checkout you can save a few bucks on your groceries and just not pay for them. They barely prosecute people for murder these days. I can imagine the consequences of shoplifting are nearly nonexistent.

Heathen.
If you kept those bags out of the landfill and recycled them instead maybe they wouldn?t be taking them from us.
Remember?
When all bags are outlawed, only outlaws will use bags.

Our new takeout boxes are sugarcane and begin breaking down after about 30 minutes with green chili in them and are double the cost. As for bags, it was $40 for 1000, now the reusable are $45 for 100.
The south likes their plastic bags.. I’ve been working at a number of job sites throughout Georgia, Florida and currently coastal Alabama the last year or two and any store you walk in to you are going to get a plastic bag. Buy a candy bar? They are putting it in to a plastic bag before you can even get your money out of your pocket.
Bought 2 cases at Sam?s when the .10 tax went into play. Have new bags for a long time. We go through self checkout at Soopers and always decline the bag tax but leave with bags of groceries that we reuse at Wally World. My kids told me I was stealing and I educated them on taxes and the bureaucracy that the 0.10 goes to, now they are on board and we have been keeping what we earn, haha.

When asked the question at king soopers. "How many bags would you like to purchase?" I always hit 0 no matter how many I used. Never challenged.

Integrity much?
I was at a local big box retail establishment this morning. I had a handful of small items so I asked for (and probably paid for) a bag. The checkout person made reference to the fact that very soon they would not have bags available period. I guess I?ll have to learn to juggle or make sure I remember to bring my own bags.
If there was an easy way for me to load a full shopping cart into the bed of my truck I?d just take the cart home with me and unload everything when I get home and bring their cart back on my next trip.
Produce bags are still exempt and plentiful, they're even on a handy roll.
Just saying.
Also, when we exhaust our "reusable" plastic bags we'll have to buy those little bathroom trash bags - and throw them in the landfill instead. So where's the logic in outlawing these? (Rhetorical question).
Soon there will be a 3 day waiting period for paper bags. You know, for the children.

Y'all are going to get to personally fund this group when you pay for all the student loan forgiveness.
"CoPIRG, like its affiliates, receives its funding through “hidden donations” from college students through a mechanism that rolls the donation into the lump sum amount paid for tuition, room and board, and other educational expenses. The PIRG method of revenue generation has been heavily criticized. 2"
I'm usually halfway to Sprouts when I remember that the bags were left at home.

Are you serious?
You are linking the use of plastic bags to cancer in humans...................
I think we should all collect as many plastic bags as possible and periodically dump them on the capital building in Denver where these laws were made. Don’t even need to get out, anytime you drive by up there just throw them out the window.

The plastic bags the daily Denver Post comes in are real tough and are good for cleaning up after pets.
Interesting that the Post uses those, but then, it beats newspapers soaked in snow.
And yes..........
I still prefer a news paper and pay over 7 dollars a day for the convenience

Oof. $2500 a year seems steep for a newspaper.
I don?t think I pay that much for internet for an entire year and I can get all of my news there.

That we store in plastic King Soopers bags? Sure, here goes.
I purchased an older Soviet-bloc pistol (that I'll likely be listing here soon C&R) from a fellow member and the gun was wrapped in one plastic bag, the magazines in another and the ammo in a third.
Absolutely no problem with the packaging/transfer method...but those bags can be used for private sales. At least they could before 10/2023 (FFL required) and now 1/2024 (plastic bags bad).

LOL, I called this out as a stupid feel-good law that doesn't really address the problem of plastic pollution in the environment on Reddit and got downvoted to hell. Leftists don't care if laws make sense, they need the sense of control over John (or Jane) Q. Public.

I was in CA for Christmas and the area I was in around the foothills of the Central Valley area some stores gave up charging for the bags. There is no way to track whether the store is charging. The bags are not something that can be tracked. So the state does not know if bags are being charged for or not. The cashiers just give out the bags.

It is like the CA Redemption Value charge for the soda and drinks in CA. The add that tax to each bottle and you are supposed to redeem the empty bottles for a percentage of the tax back for recycling. Most people don’t bother to return the bottles so the state keeps the tax money.
It’s a scam.
Fleecing the consumer is all this is. I wish I could get people to understand that fact.
It's that with the fees, but it is also virtue signaling and forced compliance. Compliance is going to be mandatory on a lot worse things than bags. I refuse to be compliant; I won't pay the fees or use reusable bags or behave in any way they want me to behave. I'll bring my stash of grocery bags, or trash bags, or a plastic tub I put in my cart. If they don't want me to use plastic, then I will make a point to keep using plastic. Civil disobedience is a must as they push stupid shit like this and force us to conform to their will.
On a related note, I noticed stacks of paper bags at my local Walmart.
I guess Walmart supports the rape and destruction of our planet through deforestation? Wasn?t that the narrative when everyone switched from paper to plastic years ago?
If people gave a shit about the health and wellbeing of our planet they would support and promote genocide. Drastically reducing the population of the planet is a much better solution than trying to decide what kind of bags those billions of people should be using.

I am surprised that the ZPG Zero Population Growth movement has not become popular again.
There was a lot of support in the late 60s and 70s, but it sure has faded away.

I’ve ordered from Amazon the same plastic bags that the stores used to give us. About 4? each. The reusable bags probably make more sense financially, but it’s worth it, simply out of spite. They can’t charge me a fee for my own bags.

You said the quiet part out loud... not that I disagree, lol.

I thought that maybe the whole covid thing was going to help thin the herd but an entire planet full of pussies hunkered down and hid. Maybe we?ll get a real pandemic that there is no hiding from and whatever?s wrong with our planet will suddenly correct itself.
In the meantime I think I?m going to go the Amazon plastic bag route.
I just use several of those blue WalMart bags. Not just for shopping, I use 'em for carrying all kinds of stuff. Real handy for hauling brass, ammo and pistols up and down the basement stairs, to and from the range, etc. Several other uses too. And shopping. When you're old and gimpy and use a cane, every little bit helps.

Killing your fellow Man en masse will not fix the issues of this planet. That is an old lie that was most recently made semi popular by the Eugenics people after WW2 trying to claim the earth was overpopulated in order to be able to continue to fund their Eugenics programs after such topics became unpalatable to the average consumer of news and information in the Western world. Which is laughably ridiculous to anyone on its face, unless you have never traveled outside of a city or densely populated county. Here in Hawaii they charge for bags to, usually just bring a backpack to throw stuff in. Or push the cart straight to the car, unload everything into a cooler or box.

Say it isn’t so.
Funny, but our schools dumpster has a steady flow of blue Walmart bags being used as trash bags! Someone has money to throw away. Sometimes they are new with the tag and sometimes they have household trash.
So...I don't know if this part has taken effect yet or not but that bag tax...yah...the store gets to keep part of it. So just exactly how much is going towards clean up of the pollution? Oh yah...none. So much for this being about the environment.

Restaurants must be exempt. My Cane's drive though order still comes in a free plastic bag and now it comes in a plastic container inside of that, too!
