Who knew solving urban blight and crime problems would be so easy?

Denver to deploy hundreds of people in yellow vests as it aims to create a "clean and safe" downtown
In conjunction with the Downtown Denver Partnership, Denverites will also now be able to report suspicious activity downtown
"That way if there is unsightly trash, you can let us know. If there's someone in mental health distress who needs support, you can let us know. If there's someone that is using or abusing drugs, you can let us know. If there is someone that needs access to support and services, you can let us know," the mayor said. "We want Denver to be a place where everyone feels comfortable, and we can be sending the right responder to the right place at the right time" with the help of the app, he said.
This is hilarious...
"This is if you are going for a run at 9 o'clock at night, you can see a yellow vest and you know that is someone that is there to provide support," Johnston said. "You know these are folks that can either directly support you or connect you to the right person."

I felt safer just reading that !!! [Sarcasm2]
What if you're color blind? Will a brown shirt be there to provide "support" for that too?
Hmm. So when I see a residentially challenged individual taking the browns to the superbowl on the sidewalk I can tattle to someone in a yellow vest and they will contact someone to handle it?

The Democrats will provide you with all of the brown shirts you could possibly need.

Hmm. I feel compelled to offer my "Ginsue take-away" evaluation on this one....
"That way if there is unsightly trash, you can let us know.
Heaven forbid someone should see "unsightly trash" and consider stooping over, picking it up, and finding a refuse bin to deposit it in instead of passing the buck to someone else to do it.
If there's someone in mental health distress who needs support, you can let us know.
My guess is folks in this category will be one of 2 types: (A) Folks who are obvious to everyone that need mental health assistance, or (B) Folks the authorities are already aware of and have chosen to do nothing.
If there's someone that is using or abusing drugs, you can let us know.
Isn't "using drugs" by default also "abusing drugs"? And, when was the last time anyone in authority has done anything to address this type of activity?
"We want Denver to be a place where everyone feels comfortable, and we can be sending the right responder to the right place at the right time" with the help of the app, he said.
Oh, the same way they've been taking care of places like the 16th Street Mall to ensure tourists and consumers "feel comfortable"? No thanks Mayor.
"This is if you are going for a run at 9 o'clock at night, you can see a yellow vest and you know that is someone that is there to provide support,"
Officer: "Ma'am, can you describe the man who raped you?"
Victim: "He was wearing a yellow vest. He was supposed to be "safe".
What am I saying? We all know that a criminal would never abuse something like this. Just like they follow gun laws and other laws.

The city with the big ideas..
This ranks right up there when denver used trash trucks to try and pack the snow in the alleys after the big blizzard.
This sounds like a script for a Sit-Com. Will they have body cams? Or a GPS poop locator?
They make it sound like these folks will be like the Greeters at DIA. A little different beat on the street!
What do you want to bet that being ex-GI or police will put your application in the floor file. Not the place for any authority here.
I really hope something happens. I would be livid if I had a business even close to downtown. John Caldera has the right idea!

Unsightly trash? What about the sightly trash?
Money laundering for "activists"
I can stop avoiding downtown Denver now thanks to the yellow vest brigade! [facepalm]
I can see some enterprising person (criminal) using these vests.
"This is if you are going for a run at 9 o?clock at night, you can see a yellow vest and you know that is someone that is there to provide support"
Imagine putting on a yellow vest if you were a criminal and you victims coming to you. Less work and probably higher ROI.
And yellow vest is not impersonating a police officer...
You know who else we've seen wearing yellow vests? Antifa members unlawfully blocking roads.
Anyone can buy a yellow vest cheap. I see bums wearing them on Colfax sometime. I hope the vests worn by these "ambassadors" will be distinguishable from generic eBay vests in some way.
And will these "ambassadors" be subject to background checks? Will they undergo any sort of training? Will they receive pay for monitoring specific zones, or can they just run willy nilly wherever they wish to accost citizens? Is there any sort of oversight process? Will they be issued Narcan and flashlights? And what are they even supposed to do aside from make a call on their cellphone? I do not see how this helps anything... it simply creates the illusion of helping... and what sort of person would volunteer for such duties? Meddlesome busybodies longing for some semblance of quasi-official recognition of their non-existent "authority"... who also have abundant free time... a winning combination, indeed. This is gonna be fun to watch.
I think I could report enough stuff to one of the yellow vest people in a day that they likely would be overwhelmed and quit.
deadbeats, bums, freeloaders and junkies the Dems fav demographic

The criminal element is already hip to ( damn, I just aged myself with that phrase ) the ?put on a reflective yellow vest & the public won?t see you ripping shit off, or suspect that you are about to rob them until it is too late scam.?

Interesting article from........2017!
Ties right into this topic.
https://www.westword.com/news/reader-denver-has-gone-from-queen-city-to-whore-of-the-rockies-8787300
Denver used to be known as the "Queen of the Rockies". It has, over the last twenty years, evolved into the "Whore of the Rockies." I have lived here 50 of my 59 years and I am looking to get OUT, as, I am sure, will many other decent people who've lived here for many years. Denver used to be a great place to live! Congratulations to the "Powers that Be" on making the Front Range a mecca for businesses and increasing commercial revenue. But at what cost?
I have witnessed a huge increase in population and a decrease in livability. Crime has increased 44 percent (at last count) over the past few years; increased violent crimes such as carjackings, shootings, stabbings, smash and grabs, etc. There's no such thing as sustainable development, either; building is taking place on any vacant lot within city limits. Look at the monstrosities being built, too! Have you driven past the Lowry neighborhood recently? Large, blocky, ugly homes with barely a yard of space between them! NO affordable housing in decent areas of town, either. With the average price of one-bedroom apartments anywhere in the metro area at $1,500 per month, and the fact that most places won't even rent unless you make three times the amount of the rent...one would have to earn $28.15 per hour just to afford an apartment.

Good grief. More catering to the progressive wine and cheese crowd while a normal responsible tax-paying citizen can't find a public place to take a piss or a dump in the entire complex due to "unhoused issues" and "private events".

No interest in Denver. Waste of taxpayer money. Virtue signaling as though these folks are going to provide any meaningful results. The problem are the vagrants and homeless who have infiltrated the downtown area. Have not been to Denver in years. No reason to patronage.

The Denver Mayor is also cutting $180 million from the budget so they can spend the money on migrants. All of this nonsense is why I REFUSE to spend a dime in Denver. I haven't been in downtown Denver in over 3 years. Denver tax dollars are funding the most absurd and left wing projects and programs.

By golly, doesn't Texas know the "sanctuary city" declaration was just virtue signalling? We don't actually want the migrants. They should just stay by border and not interfere with our Queen City status. [facepalm]

Absolutely.
Someone will arrive shortly to hand that unfortunate unhoused individual a roll of toilet paper, a clean syringe, and a $50 bill.
