Grain grinder

Been too long since we have been active in this forum.

Anyone grinding their own grain? If so which grinder are you using and what are you grinding?

We are going to store some bulk corn, oats, wheat and sorghum this year, need to be ready to process them ourselves.

This is a good question for me to follow, I have some grain stored but no grinder for it.

corn will beat the heck out of you for manual grinder....

I have used the electric wonder mill for wheat and it worked well. I had ok results with corn, but never could make good corn bread with the dried corn I could find.

The best rig would be the big red manual grinder (grainmaker) with a home made power attachment. Why? It can make peanut butter and corn meal.

However ,you would need a power attachment would be a small electric motor with fan belt drive if you are doing much more than cracked corn.

Country living grain mill and the optional large auger will do anything none oily

I have one and use it mostly for brewing/distilling but have made flour for baking before
there is one in FB marketplace right now for a good price

I use the KitchenAid all metal grain mill mixer attachment. I've ground a boatload of wheat for bread making and it works great. KitchenAid claims it works with corn, but I've never tried.

Electric mills can be extremely loud. (Used to use one called The Kitchen Mill, it was crazy loud). The KitchenAid attachment is quiet in comparison.

Yep - the electric wonder mill does sound like a jet spooling up. But I was able to grind fast and
do a few days baking in a few mins.

If you do wheat berries only - there are many paths open for flour.

We have been using this one for at least 8 years. Works perfect for everything we have tried. We also have their flaker which works great for oats/oatmeal/peanut butter. This stuff is expensive, built to last, and heirloom quality. We cant wear it out, you wont.

That grain maker is a few models up from what I have. I have seen folks hook up a peddle bike to it to provide power for the grinder.
There are a few better made ones - but getting parts, and long term usage - I think it is the best.

We have ours hooked up to a bike. Kids pedal a few minutes a day and we have fresh bread daily.

Couple of the minions bikes would work well for power.

Hit/miss engine would work well as long as fuel available.

Grew up grinding wheat for bread on the Country Living Grain mill.

It does a fantastic job.

A nice small DC motor high torque low RPM with the right gearing would work fine with one solar panel and a car battery would do wonders.

I dropped the need to look into that sort of thing when I found my grain maker had zero issues milling wheat powered my my arm.
If I needed to grind corn - I would be making sure I could get the mill powered by a bike or the something besides a hand crank.
