Lapierre and two others found liable for bleeding funds from the NRA. He has singlehandedly run this organization into the ground--it's hard to imagine a better job of destroying the NRA even being done by an anti-gunner

Even 20 years ago, I refused to donate to them because I saw that the purpose of the organization was fashioned in a way that actually solving problems would hamper their own funding, while drama (and especially losing) helped their funding tremendously.

There were no allegations of corruption at the time. It's just the circumstances were prime for it.

The loss of Lapierre isn't going to change the foundational problem. NRA is fine with certain things, but solving issues in the courts is not one of them.

I think it's just better if gun owners transition into better organizations for the legal challenges, tbh.

I used to ask: If the NRA could solve the problem and (by way of example) could successfully get a constitutional amendment passed that terminated the "gun control" argument for good, would they?

Hell no. Donations would be culled by 90%, Salary cuts and unemployment would soon follow.

I've often felt that the NRA has little effect politically despite the noise you hear from the left. If you compare the contributions between the NRA and left-leaning groups, especially unions, the difference is night and day. NRA has less political clout than it wants people to believe.

I see the same thing with the AMA, American Motorcyclist Association. They've done absolutely zero in the past 30 years for public land access or other motorcycle related issues, choosing to concentrate on helmet laws.

The main reason people join either group is to participate in sanctioned competitions and training.

It’s almost certainly because of the liability insurance policy the club has, which is through the NRA.

I've been a Benefactor Life Member of the NRA for about 25 years or so. I defended the NRA as long as I could. But it's been at least 10 years, probably closer to 15, since I've had much positive to say about the organization. I've pretty much cut off any communication with them and they haven't seen a dime from me for a long time. And they won't in the foreseeable future. There are too many other organizations that are more active in pro-gun causes and actually work to further our gun rights. The FPC comes to mind.

LaPierre is a scumbag. The worst thing he's ever done is put me in a position of having to defend the state of New York.
