Beretta M9 upgrades.

Soooooo....if I were to purchase an M9, what would any of you do to upgrade it before trusting it? Parts, springs, whatever. Or is it really a waste, and a newer Beretta M9 is good as is?

As a lowly enlistedman who carried an M9 for several years in various wartorn regions of the world, I'm not sure there is much to change. The swap from a 1911 to an M9 was a huge transition. But once I got used to a pistol that would hit a target, the tool was never an issue.

I would replace any non-grip plastic or plastic-coated parts with full metal ones. They can include the guide pod, trigger, safety and mag release. This became a problem with many guns made after the early '00s. Mine are currently '80s or '90s manufacture, with the exception on a Wilson Combat Compact Carry.

I carried an M9 in the trans-9/11 Army and have no complaints.

Nothing wrong with the P226- I have one too.

It's kinda like the Ford vs Chevy / AR-15 vs Mini-14 debate. Some of us own both, like both, and don't have to choose one or the other. That viewpoint tends to upset fanboys on both sides.

I always change the main spring out for a factory D spring. Makes a huge diffrence in the trigger pull and feel. I used to swap out the plastic coated parts for metal ones but not any more. Im a big fan of the alumagrips they thin out the grip big time. 92 series of guns are my favorite hand gun.

I bought an M9 a few years back, mainly for nostalgia since I used to carry one like 3Bean. Mine came with the Wilson Combat Ultrathin G10 grips, which I like a lot. The previous owner also replaced the plastic guide rod with a Wilson steel one, also worth doing IMHO.

I had an Elite II when they first came out. It was the G model, decocker, which I preferred. That thing shot like a laser, sorry I sold it. For pure improvement to get a better trigger check out the Langdon Tactical “trigger kit in a bag”. It’s a worthwhile upgrade.
