I just completed the interview and inspection by an ATF agent this morning. She said I should expect my Type 07 Mfg's FFL in a few weeks. She was very friendly and helpful and stressed all they (the ATF compliance agents in Denver) wanted was for FFLs to follow the rules, keep proper records and always ask questions if in doubt about something.

As soon as the Type 07 arrives I'm going to apply for the SOT so I can get into a little of the NFA stuff.

I'm looking forward to learning an entirely new and different aspect of the gun biz.

Be more than happy to help out CO-AR15 members with regular transfers and such...even though I'm in Bailey.

right on I will keep you in mind! Might have you do can or two for me in the future...I am still waiting on 1 of them. 4 months later[Bang]

What kind of insurance do you have to carry, and what did you carry for your 01 FFL? I am interested in getting my FFL some day and just want to learn all the info about it before diving in...well learn as much as I can first[Beer]

as for the 07 mfg...are you going to make anything yourself? Doesn't an 07 also allow you to manufacture machine guns with the intent to sell them to law enforcement? What about making them as far as for the machine gun shoots...I have always wondered either how people got all their money to have 50 machine guns for rent or if they took AK kits, but them being an 07 FFL a lot cheaper and rented them that way.

anyways, glad things went smooth and good to hear the ATF lady was cool and they just want compliance. Hopefully they all hold that standard and aren't out to just bust your balls whenever they feel like it.

I'm setting up shop in a building I have on my prop. I'm basically just looking at standard liability and still working out some details on my homeowner's policy in terms of the business insurance. That's complicating things a little bit. But I'm not doing business yet so it's not critical for a while.

As far as making stuff myself? Yeah, I plan on doing that. I'm mostly going to try to do normal, non-NFA transfers and consignments as the main source of income (though this isn't going to be a full-blown retail operation) and will eventually get into some SBS/SBR stuff. Also thinking about fun shoots where people can come and shoot a machinegun for a fee.

I've got a lathe and mill and some other stuff but I don't yet have the skills to build stuff from the ground up. But there was definitely a desire to have some full-auto stuff, suppressors, SBRs, etc...that led to this...and I can't afford post-86 stuff. So, I figured this was the way to go to maybe make a little money and I could have some fun gun-related things to tinker around with since I'm basically retired.

Like I told the ATF agent...the bulk of what I do will be normal FFL stuff and the mfg'ing and NFA stuff will be in the minority. She seemed fine with that.

Will you be able to cut my 870 barrel to 12" and then thread it for a choke?

Bailey Guns

That's probably a little above my pay grade right now.

Although, if you want to let me practice on your 870 barrel...

Irving

Actually, I might take you up on that. Once I get my stamp I can cut as many barrels as I want and have you properly destroy them if you screw up right?

Don't charge me for that question. ;)

Yeah. I realize it's just an "I want it!" thing though; and I can do whatever I want as long as I'm willing to pay for it.

depending on how you put the paperwork, you could put several barrel lengths and if they get screwed up cut it down to the next one[Beer]

someone correct me on that if I am wrong...not sure on the SBS but I have seen it done for a SBR

Irving

I was under the impression that you only had to put the shortest length on there.

BUT, you've got NFA stuff and I don't so...

Harley's don't need parts. They never break.

Carl you do realize that if you don't engage in business and simply are trying to buy post samples for cheap ATF will prosecute you for tax evasion?

Don't get the wrong idea that this isn't a legitimate business. Just the NFA stuff is going to be (I'm assuming) the minor end of the business. The ATF doesn't have a problem with what I'm going to do and have already checked on the LLC I've set up along with all the other stuff...sales tax license, taxpayer ID's, etc. She even commented on my lathe and mill and other equip I've already set up.

And just FYI...nobody trims Stella's nails and lives to tell about it.

Sounds like your doing near to the same thing I'm doing. I'm not going for the manufactures license though. I too have spoke with an ATF agent. I got nothing but good vibes from this person. He was very helpful and friendly. I have to say I hope he/they stay that way. These guys are people too. Just working a job.

Good luck to you!

Yeah, this lady was very polite and helpful. She did ask a lot of questions and made sure I understood everything but like you said, just doing what we pay her to do.

Good luck to you as well.

I've been thinking about doing this for awhile now too. Now you just added fuel to the fire. There's just something about a sawed off shotgun that makes me smile. [Muaha]

You don’t happen to own the A.T.F Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms, store up there do you? I go up to bailey often to shoot up at buffalo creek gun club since I shoot high power, because they have a 600 yard range with pits. If so I will have to stop in and if not ill have to visit your shop once it’s up and running!

glade to hear everything is moving smoothly!
