Glock switches, auto sears, or "chips"

?Police officers are facing down fully automatic weapon fire in amounts that haven?t existed in this country since the days of Al Capone in the Tommy gun,? said Steve Dettelbach, director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF. "It?s a huge problem.?

From article - "While the devices are considered illegal machine guns under federal law, many states don't have their own specific laws against them. In Indiana, police were finding them so often ? multiple times a week in the state's capital ? that?the state changed the law?to ensure it included switches."

If they are so common...

Fear mongering hit piece. Pretty much bet money that all the examples of the use of illegally converted guns were by people who were criminals before they converted gun to full auto.

If you're unarmed, you are a victim.

My theory is that China is flooding American streets with these to aid their comrades in DC and blue state capitols with getting more gun control through.

How true.

Which for those not informed. Not one of them has, or was charged with insurrection. Yet the media and usual suspects keep regurgitating the same shit.

Yes, let's get people worried about phantom guns instead of the fentanyl and illegal crossings at the southern border.

It will probably end with martial law. International tensions are high. Both parties are at fault. Supremacy of federal law will be needed to restore order. Other members are correct in stating that we have an internal security problem caused by outsiders.

Adopt terrible border policies, and then blame the 2nd amendment and gun owners for the problems they create. Of course it's all intentional to add fuel to their agenda.

Supremacy of federal law isn't the issue. Part of the problem is the feds taking that shit WAY too far and exceeding their authority. Shift power back to the people of the various states in which they live. We've had a very nice list of things the feds are allowed to do for over 200 years. And most of what they do isn't on that list.

Glock switches have been a serious problem in Denver since COVID, they're all over the place.

If only gangbangers had them, the problem wouldn't be so bad, but they're finding them on paranoid schizophrenics and 12 year old kids.

More criminals, more guns.

While I am sure the op has examples of how machine guns are bad, the simple truth is that it takes a bad guy to cause a problem with a machine gun.

This is all about blurring the between FA and SA. The left's latest push is that SA guns that can be easily converted to FA should be regulated like FA. And since Scalia couldn't keep his statist pie-hole shut, we have that 'machine gun' dicta from Heller that the left can use against us. I think the brace rules with their point system was a dry run at expanding it to all firearms and if you have so many points, you get restricred, and the states could just pick a point total and titrate it down.

So, since I'm a clueless old fart - a question -
Are these "Glock switches" a mag-dump-with-one-trigger-pull thing, or are they semi-controllable? As in, stops shooting when you let off the trigger?

I don't own a Glock, never even held one, let alone fired one.

Green Zones, not martial law. It won't be walls and barriers, it'll be cameras and ai with discriminating entry/exit. It'll start in city centers. I bet we see it before the decade is out.

London has had this for years.
So do other major urban areas in EU. NYC has them, Denver too, along with the gunshot detectors.

People are too self absorbed to notice the light has turned red, let alone surveillance cameras.

I guess that Chicago is now suing Glock about the switch issue. It makes perfect sense that Glock is to blame, but the prescious little hood rats running around with third party switch kits are innocent. [facepalm]

They make the Glock full auto but yes, the trigger still works...............let me rephrase that............yes, if you release the trigger, it'll stop firing.

Hi, I might be able to answer this for you.

There are several types of switch, all operating on the same basic principle. The backplate on the slide of a Glock pistol is easily removable, and the switch is approximately 1" square with a lever that is inserted into the pistol, then the square snaps in to the place where the backplate goes. Usually there is a button similar to a trigger guard safety where you push in the button and it pops out the other side.

In one position, it operates like a normal Glock pistol. In the other position it becomes fully automatic... as long as the trigger is held back it will fire an entire extended 33 round mag in about a second and a half... not very accurate or even controllable though. You could also tap the trigger to fire short bursts. Very popular with the Crips and Bloods and their fan club. The Mexican gangs tend to prefer AR pistols.

A few years back there was a huge problem with the Chinese selling them via online shopping sites like Wish and DHgate... a few were even popping up on Amazon, eBay, and Etsy. These were all CNC machined metal switches and we have no idea how many were purchased, probably well over 20,000... and they were well under $100 too. ATF cracked down on those so you cannot buy them online anymore, but the plans to make your own are widely available and it seems very simple. There also are files to download to make the pieces with a 3D printer... that's mostly what we've been seeing in Denver lately.

Possession of a switch could get you over 10 years in federal prison, even if you don't own a Glock. Extended mag is an additional charge. But a few years back a schizophrenic broke into Children's Hospital after hours with one, threatened a security guard, and only got 3 years for multiple felonies, which I found rather bizarre.

It's a very dangerous and highly illegal novelty item only useful for perpetrating driveby shootings.

A good friend?s son is a detective with a suburban Atlanta area pd. He says they?re seeing a lot of these from the typical criminal element with the largest group of under 18 yr olds. Shockingly prosecutions more times then not don?t get federal charges due to deal making. Little fish giving up bigger fish.

In the hood, it's a status symbol... instant respect, because "He got dat SWITCH, yo!"

Ridiculous contraption.

If you wanna be a criminal badass, maybe borrow grandad's MAC-10, lol.

One can only hope that the trigger mechanism "sticks", and half of the 33 round happy stick ends up going into the head of the "user".

From what I've heard, the lever often requires fitting to operate properly... and you know none of them hood rats are doing that... they can't even change the battery in their smoke detector and get into high speed pursuits on a donut spare, lol.

I hate to be contrary but... I dont think the only use would be to perpetrate drivebys. If I owned one (which I dont) I would enjoy shooting one at home, as I would any other full auto firearm. Just because bad people do bad things with them does not mean they do not have any other use. Otherwise we might as well give up all of our guns, fast cars, screw drivers, boots, fists....

It would work with a shoulder stock or foregrip, but none of the ones I've seen pics of have those.

A number of years ago I had the opportunity to try the Glock 18 while in Israel. Absolutely worthless without the shoulder stock in full auto.

When regular, everyday people are targeted by laws supposedly designed to protect them from criminals or themselves, that should be a clue.
Glock switches, and 3D printed ?Yankee Boogle? Auto sears are here to stay.

?If these Americans think they can just 3D print their own full auto sears without anyone knowing about it?well, thats almost like the People have a second shot at the Second Amendment? - Fudd Legalese Enforcer.

3D printed auto sears might last 3 or 4 mags.

And EVERY file downloaded can be traced... just as with CSAM... the thing is, probably over 100,000 people have downloaded these auto sear files... many of whom probably never even print them, some may not even own any guns.

Let's play compare the prosecutorial process for the 18 year old hood rat caught with a switch during a criminal event, and a middle age non-violent citizen who happens to have Grandpa's fully functional MP-40 war trophy. We know who will actually see a full court judicial press.

That is the beauty of them. Pop the rear pin drop it in, use it for a mag or 2, pop the rear takedown pin again, pull it out, snap it in half dispose of the halves in whatever expedient manner the shooter wishes, and your back to semi only.

Not every file was downloaded from the internet, not every 3D printer is hooked up to a computer that is hooked up to the internet. 3D printers can make thousands of these things for pennies apiece. The emerging thing the Fed bois are going to likely have to start worrying about is 100 mph FPV drones with shaped charges that can punch through both sides of a Bear Cat.
Which is a different level of get off my lawn than the mini WM dumpster at the end of your drive way filled with 150 lbs of Tannerite and beer bottle caps getting lit up with some M855 rounds.

Didn't I see something about him being a frequent flier?

This is just a normal progression of an arms race. They sell A LOT of Bearcats Most cops I see now are dressed like "operators". Joe_K brings up drones. If people get motivated, things could get ugly. The disappearance of rule of law, is starting to have an impact. People don't respect authority. Side note. The female spokesperson looked like she was trying to be famous on social media. Her look hurt made it tough to take her serious.
