We have a rental property just inside Denver city limits. Last year City/County Denver required all rental property owners to buy/apply for a license to rent there which also required that the property be inspected, which also costs the owners money. On top of that, they prohibit owners or their property management companies pull their own credit report for a potential renter and are required to use the 'renter provided' credit report. Other legislation the libtards passed basically make it so if someone wants to live in your house for free you have to let them, or if you want to get them out it's on the owner's dime an takes months. We received the below email a couple days ago.

Dear stakeholders in our local residential rental property industry,

You are receiving this email because you have an active or pending residential rental property license with the City and County of Denver.

The City and County of Denver has long prided itself on being a welcoming city, coming together and supporting one another in times of crises, and supporting each other as much as needed. With almost 40,000 migrants arriving in the Mile High City since 2022, the city's ongoing efforts include working closely with the community to find solutions that would more efficiently and effectively support our newcomers.

To this end, we are working to assess how many licensed rental property owners and those with pending applications are interested in assisting the city in connecting newcomers with stable housing. Please help us by answering the following two questions:

Do you have a vacancy in your rental property with a rent of less than $2,000?
Are you willing to speak with a local nonprofit organization tasked with identifying properties for qualifying newcomers?

If you answered yes to both questions above, please fill out this form (https://denvergov.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1ecf2f6b6d7a4c61a767ba5f5&id=f34fa8cda8&e=7abd683740).

Community partnerships are key for Denver to lead the way and become the model across the nation for communities facing this or similar situations. Thank you for joining thousands of Denverites who are showing their unwavering support during this unprecedented humanitarian response.

Thank you,

City and County of Denver

One of the definitions of Socialism or Communism, is that you no longer own your own property.

It seems to me that you no longer own your own property.

If the libs are so concerned about our migrants, wouldn't you think they would open their homes and sponsor some of the 'newcomers'? Nah, they're looking around for the elusive 'someone else' to clean up their bullshit.

The suspense is killing me. Are you going to opt in to this one time opportunity to help those less fortunate?

Oh, most certainly. I'm looking forward to experience the warm feeling I'll get helping the less fortunate. I may even be lucky enough to house a sleeper cell of a couple dozen Mauritanians who'll take out their oppressed frustrations on my drywall and sacrifice goats in my living room. No charge of course courtesy of the our state 'leadership'

I think if I was a Denver, City & County of taxpayer I would be welding plates on a bulldozer.

Probably a good way to make $2000 off a place that you usually rent for $600

More likely a way to rent your $2500 property for $2000.

I think to make that politically acceptable you?d have to contract out the welding to some of those migrants.

I have done hundreds of the rental licensing inspections.

As much as I dislike any government intrusion, I have found most properties to be noncompliant.

It is good to hold rental property owners to a minimum standard of habitability.

And it is a bare minimum. There are many things that should be on the list from a code perspective and things that don't need to be on there.

You pretty much consider this your property, right Eddie? The states property? Damn these evil landowners?

I don't necessarily disagree with you eddie, I have lived in some pretty shitty rentals in El Paso and Colorado Springs as a poor lower enlisted man during the 80s and 90s. And to be fair, the inspection was pretty basic, but we went into it with the attitude we were going to provide a quality place to live, one, because we try to be good people, and two, if the house looked like WE cared, hopefully the tenant would too. We did a ton of maintenance and improvements before we rented, new paint in and out, new roof, new carpet and flooring throughout, new fencing, updated bathrooms, appliances, sprinkler system, front security door, sliding glass door, etc. I replaced all the outlets with the tamper proofs because even though it's not required now we figure it's coming. We had one inspection issue because we didn't realize smoke detectors had to be replaced after 10 years and one was close. From my own rental experiences as well as my wife's, I know that there are those who may not care as much.

We also pay a local property management company to manage it, one, for our protection, and two, to make sure that any issues that may come up are handled promptly and professionally. We're 200 miles away and I don't want to be googling a plumber for the tenant at midnight while her (our) basement is flooding.

But, as hard as we try, the guvmint treats us based on the actions of the dickheads, so it's all fair. There's no reward for doing the right thing and no penalty for doing wrong. Take rights away from law abiding among us and reduce punishment for the lawbreakers so no one gets their feelers hurt.

Would someone call the wambulance? I think I just had a mini melt...
