Not a fisherman. Don?t do it often. But is there a good enough folding stowing fishing rod in a case that you can recommend? Something not bulky, small enough to throw in the back of the car and maybe even leave it there.

I have a smaller, collapsible rod and reel that I used to pack on my atv for fishing in remote areas. It is perfectly serviceable and would fit neatly in your trunk along with a small tackle box.

Not sure my specific make and model but it?s similar to this one.

Just add a small reel and you?re good to go.

How about this:
https://www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/fishing-rods/spinning-rods/ugly-stik-gx2-pack-rod/p/1376059

paired with a basic reel:

https://www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/fishing-reels/casting-reels/lews-classic-pro-speed-spool-slp-series-casting-reel/p/p216914

Shouldn't take up much space, since the rod breaks down to 4 sections.

I’ve caught a lot of trout using a kids Mickey Mouse rod. While a short kids rod has some limits, I’ve used them in high country lakes and streams quite a bit. I often take one with me, and a small selection of spinners in a small hard case, when I’m big game hunting.

A more standard takedown rod in a hard case may suit your needs better. You can get them in a pretty small tube.

A 4 piece fly rod breaks down awfully small as well. The Sportsman’s warehouse fly rod I have often gets stowed behind the seat in my vehicle if I think there’s a chance I’ll get to stop and roll out a fly.

Bass pro offers free fly fishing classes. They schedule them when they have interest, so if you call and ask they might suddenly have one coming up. Sheels might as well.

I have several travel rods that work well, several Fenwick rods and a Diawa, for the same situation. Best bang for the buck though is the Ugly Stick travel as others have mentioned. My 15 yr old has had his for ~3 years now and loves it. It has worked well for him and scout camp and church camp activities.

Eagle Claw pack rods.

Made in Colorado at I-70 and Colorado. I have had one for 30+ years in a soft case and it has traveled well in various vehicles.

Both cheap and fit in small pack with cigarette case sized takle box.

If you're unarmed, you are a victim.

I'd suggest a Tenkara rod. Collapses down really small, but with a 10+ foot reach. Basically the equivalent of an old bamboo stick with a string on the end.

It?s not like he?s buying a boat.

As long as he doesn?t go there it can be reasonably affordable.
