I'm looking for opinions other than mine. We have a few Nighthawk hammer/sear etc. drop in sets in the shop. Thinking of buying one to assemble a near basic 1911 with a custom trigger set. All of these new fangled manufacturers (not Colt). Rock Island, Tisas, Springfield, I could go on and on. Want factory beavertail grip safety, Gov't size. What do you guys think is the better of what's out there now?

Springfield is going to get you a well proven forged frame & slide- look for the word "Imbel" under a grip panel. That being said I have built up a couple of Rock Islands that did clean up nicely but for the best out of it the only thing you are using is the frame and slide.
You know there is virtually nothing on a 1911 that is "Drop In" right?

The two Tisas I have, I am pretty happy with. Fit and finish on them in excellent.

As a devotee of the vaunted 1911 for over 50 years I would say it all depends on your budget. My favorites are from Les Baer, the earlier the better. I’ve also had fantastic luck with a variety of Springfield’s offerings when I need to be more budget conscious. I’ve seen more inconsistent quality from Colt over the past 5-7 years. Also the earlier Dan Wessons (2016ish) are outstanding.

A production pistol is much cheaper than a custom/semi-custom let alone the wait time from a quality known gunsmith (can easily extend to years, some have closed their books until they get caught up).

The 1911 is arguably the deepest rabbit hole to go down in the firearms world lol.

You didn't say what your budget was.

I think that you could put a Beaver-Tail on yourself....look at Youtube and see.

I've got a Rock River and it is excellent.

Don't confuse the above w/a Rock Island.

I had a Springfield Range Officer, and I sold it. It didn't shoot well. They closed their Custom Shop....or so I've heard. It sorta seems to me, that their guns are hit and miss. I've got an XD Sub-Compact and I shot a 3 point down target today. I've also got a 5" XD, that they'v worked on, and it doesn't shoot as well as the 3" ????

S&W makes some....and I think that the Performance Center puts out some guns that are pretty "Spiffy."

Ruger makes some....Ruger stands behind their stuff and makes good stuff

You also didn't mention what you were going to use it for....
You didn't mention caliber....9mm, .38 Super (why?) .40, 10mm, or .45acp

I’m a fan of Rock Island Armory 1911’s. Just got my son one for his birthday and he was stoked. He always enjoyed shooting my no frills GI version.

Personally I would say the best compromise available is the kimber kds9c. Has nice features, solid finish, reasonable price. Problem is it's a kimber so probably finicky.
