Since I frankly just can't afford to shoot as much as I want to and buy .45ACP rounds..
I think I should pick up a conversion kit and shoot the heck outta that instead.
any thoughts on brands?
I have a Colt MarkIV series 80 ( if being a series 80 makes a difference )
also .. if anyone has one they don't want anymore....... I have no problems with a used kit [UZI]
Thanks in advance!

I had a Ciener for several years and several thousand rnds.
Still going strong.
I bought my Marvel conversion used a little over a year ago. Have shot alot of steel and Bullseye with it. Works fine.
I broke the screw that retains the breech insert in place, Shipped it off to the Corland NE Marvel shop and they fixed and sent it back to me for free.
I have both the optic rail and the adjustable sight rails.

To avoid training scars, find one that locks back on empty. The AA standard 1911 conversion is excellent and has this feature.

since EVERYONE seems to have a REALLY long lead time ( except kimber)
Has anyone played with a kimber conversion?
I want to order this week so when I get home from tour I can play with my new toy :-)
thanks for the help !!!
I have a Kimber conversion but have only taken it out once. That one time was greatly disappointing. I couldnt get it to feed any of the three kinds of ammo I brought consistently. I dont know if it just needs broken in or what. But Ive never had a firearm of any kind function as poorly as this one. Maybe it will be better next time (I hope). Just my experience. FWIW.

would you wanna part with it ?
Other people have given you excellent advice on a 1911 conversion.
The reason for the longer delivery time on the Marvel, Advantage arms is demand because the stuff works.
The reason you can buy Kimber, Ciener is lack of demand.
Troll Gunbroker.com for a decent used conversion kit. Or buy a complete firearm.
Any decent 22 will last for decades with minimal cost. If your in the Colorado Springs area PM me if you want to test fire some 22's.

I want to take it out a couple more times before I do that. I really want it to work. It shoots. It just wont cycle. Single shot pistol firing isnt much fun though. [Bang]

i have one as well! mine seems to work fine i did have to break it in i have fired just about everything through it i have at least put 1000 rounds though mine. i have shot mine even in bullseye at 50ft all in the black with 20 sec time fired 5 rounds per relay 10 rounds per target. i enjoy mine, i am wanting to get it threaded so i can put a suppressor on it this dec. i am having a little trouble figuring out how i will do this i know people have done this a guy on you tube did. just finding the right company and or parts. which one did you buy the blued or the fake stainless? also bought a sig 226 conversion! works great. only negative i would say is slide not locking back but helps me train if i have FTF/or fire and or lock back.
side note: one thing i did do last week when i was home for the hell of it was figuring out why cant they hold more rounds for plinking i took it a part a few min with a dremial i add 2 more rounds to the mag making it 12rds lol works fine! i saw a company selling kimber mags for 43 bucks for a 16 rounds mag hell ill just convert my own. I've got a kimber conversion - it's been mixed. When it runs, it runs pretty well, but it doesn't always want to run. Not sure if it's an outside temp or lubrication issue or what.
I had to hand-fit the conversion to my SAM 1911 gov't model, and work/lube it to break it in.
Sometimes the slide has a problem stripping and feeding the next round, sometimes it doesn't completely cycle. So far it's been used only with wally world fed bulk-pack milk carton.
There are two Marvel units on Gunbroker.com. One is a complete 1911 package. The other is just the conversion unit. You don't need a ffl with the unit.
