View Full Version : What's up with CO Springs?
I have a couple projects going on down here in the springs and have been spending a few overnights here and there vs sitting in traffic to get home. I've seen these signs in a number of places around town, don't think I've ever seen one in Boulder or even Denver for that matter.

Haven't seen those signs myself or if I had, I ignored them and didn't bother remembering them.
C Springs has had a large infusion of people from Leftist locales in recent years. This has led to better ethnic food offerings but has led to other changes in the city. The signs don't worry me because I will just patronize establishments that don't have the signs.

People that cannot afford housing in the socialist utopia that is the Denver area are taking up residence in the Springs, driving up prices and importing their leftist ideals to a once reliable right leaning area.

While we saw CO falling into leftist ideology when we lived there. To think it has sunk even lower the last 6 yrs is amazing. Meanwhile we have flagstaff, tucson and phenis dragging us down.

Did not think the Nigerians used Chukudus.
Unlike Denver, I believe open carry of unlicensed handguns is technically permitted in Colorado Springs, unless there is a sign like that posted... then the owner can ask the person to leave or have them trespassed.
In Texas if a sign like that is ignored, police will actually arrest you.

I see it occasionally, and there is always a high cringe factor.

Whenever I see someone open carrying a handgun in public, my immediate thought is, "That person does not have a CCW permit."
About 5 years back, some young autistic fellow with negligent parents made a practice of "patrolling" his block in Aurora with a pump shotgun. MANY 911 calls regarding that guy. The cops would stop by, chat with him, determined he was not a threat and had broken no law, then would drive off. There were a few articles about him in the Denver Post. Then, one would assume he found a new hobby because it suddenly stopped.
I saw an obvious narcissist in a gas station with a $500 haircut (shaved in lines and bullshit), barbered beard, fancy clothes, and an expensive open carried 1911 in a craptastic leather slim holster as a fashion statement that as holstered, left the pistol almost entirely exposed pointed directly behind him, flagging absolutely everyone behind him including my kids with a loaded pistol.
?
I hesitate to express my true feelings on that, but a part of me did reflect on where exactly the line of reasonable belief likely sits in the eye of a jury. Sort of a trolly scenario... if "bad guys" ran into a gas station waiving a gun, would a reasonable belief also include Mr. Narcissist potentially squeezing a round into an innocent bystander?
I do utterly despise the type of people that use guns as a fashion or ego statement. But I also utterly despise that personality type whether or not they are carrying anything at all. At least it does make them a little easier to identify, at times.

I used to carry a 1911 in a Galco Miami Classic and it was fine. 1911 has a grip safety, and usually it was in Condition 2. Would not advise carrying a Glock that way though.

They had lots of those in Arizona, but the picture on them was an STI racegun :)

I do know 1911's as well, and agree for the most part, I guess my major issue with it is, if something happens that motivates him to draw, a risk of accidentally squeezing a round into the ground (or at worst, his own foot) is now substituted with a ND into a random bystander or in this case, a child's head.
Even if it's holstered, the golden rules apply for me - don't ever point a loaded gun at people. (my 2c) I do agree that for the most part, left untouched it's not going to discharge by itself.
ND's can happen though, and I don't trust a narcissist to be safe. Even if it's a one in a million accident, the golden rule would make the risk absolutely zero.
I do recognize I'm being nitpicky and probably hate the narcissist more than the carry method.
nah, I don't think you're being particularly nitpicky... I agree with you that if it's not pointing downward into the ground while being carried, the person carrying it has made a poor choice. Does that mean they shouldn't carry... well no, but they probably should be reminded that they're pointing a loaded gun at things they're not willing to destroy and that is breaking gun safety 101.
Hey, it was good enough for Sonny Crockett's Bren Ten in Miami Vice, lol.
Last OC I saw locally was a guy with a full-frame glock on a hip, and another full-frame glock across his chest. In an oh-so-dangerous shopping center at Powers & Barnes
[werdo]
Most of the folks I seen OC was rocking a 1911. I think it was early this year I saw a guy
running with plate carriers jogging near some old rail road tracks that had been decommissioned.
This was around Academy & Constitution.

Whenever I see it, it's almost always the guy with a Hi-Point in an $8 soft nylon holster.[facepalm][LOL]

I would be more surprised to see the guy carrying his Hi-point in a $200 Kramer leather holster so I guess the $8 nylon makes sense.

Honestly? Infighting inside the GOP. Wayne Williams pissed off the #2 GOP candidate enough that she supported Yemi over Williams and I honestly can't blame her with the kind of commercials he was running.

Pretty much the story of how Colorado changed from purple to blue and Republicans in general.
