Trump announced his running mate, JD Vance of Ohio.

I know very little about him.

Wrote a book I didn't read. Made into a movie I haven't seen.

Supposed to be one of the smartest guys in the Senate.

Opinions?

Seems like a good pick, solid guy and not a silver-spoon career politician.

USMC veteran and might be the first beard in the Oval Office in 90 years!

He will mop the floor with Kamala. His book and the movie are very good by the way.

Like many R positions, I really like about 80% of the platform, ambivalent on 10%, and eye-roll/dislike the other 10%. Vance seems about the same.

I don't know anything about JD Vance other than he enlisted in the US Marines after 9/11. For me that's enough to know I'll stand with my Marine brother. It's a short bar, I admit. But those of us that agreed to sign our names on that line have a bond others will never understand. The fact that he never leads with his military service is even more of a reason for me to support him.

I don?t know much on his policies still reading on those. But he seems like a really solid guy. I just finished his book I had to read it when he was announced as trumps VP. It?s a good read for sure. The guy came from nothing and very much has made something out of himself with the help of no one. He understand the problems that are plaguing this country. I think he will do good.

Also finished the movie the other night. It touches a little on what happened in his life but obviously the book goes into way more detail.

Don't know much about him either but just from watching his speech on the RNC, I think he'll be just fine.

He seems like a real asshole who has said some batshit things on the record... and his book apparently is at least a third bullshit.

Trump made a mistake picking him.

So you've read his book or are you projecting what you heard somewhere?

Read several reviews of his book which pointed out inconsistancies as well as obviously false statements. One of my friends is an English professor who grew up dirt poor as a Kentucky hillbilly, and he wrote an essay about all the bullshit in Vance's book.

We are listening to J.D. Vance narrate his book in an online Libby library loan while driving. Started this afternoon and are halfway through the 7 hour audio. It's certainly entertaining, and probably not without some literary license, but he's a gifted storyteller. I think he related that his mamaw or grandmother had 26 guns scattered around her house including in the kitchen utensil drawer.
You know, just like we all do.

Now listening to his speech live where he said it was a mere 19 loaded guns.

Well I guess that's one man's view. Have heard several that seemed to give him and his book pretty high praise.

He was never a "hillbilly." He was a redneck. Big difference. But whatever, I honestly don't care. His stated views on the role of women in society are horrific. Having Vance as a running mate can only hurt Trump's campaign. It was a dumb choice.

Does he wants Women to:
Have to register for the Draft?
Be forced to enter the workforce because of our retarded financial banking scheme?
Believe they can do anything a Man can do?
Continue to be used as sexual objects in the name of Liberty?
Be able to get a divorce at will?
Kill their children and our Nations next generation at will?

I am not familiar with all his positions.

The fact that he wanted to ban abortions nationwide was a huge red flag as well as a "poison pill." If the Right dropped abortion from their platform they would triple their votes, even half of Democrats would likely vote Right because everything else they propose makes perfect sense, and the Marxists have destroyed America and will continue more of the same policies... but "single issue voters"... and this isn't the 80s anymore, pretty much everyone under 50 who isn't a fundamentalist Christian does not feel reproductive choice should even be a political issue. It is a womens' issue. And the men who adamantly oppose it are typically pushing a Theological ideology (no matter how much they claim the contrary). Looking at it pragmatically and logistically, we have far too many people in this country, and few women nowadays seem to be worthy of the title "mother." They just shit babies out, neglect them, abuse them, then shit out another... all while draining public resources. That is not sustainable, and motherhood is a sacred responsibility, not a punishment for "not keeping your legs closed."

So, his stance on abortion was a red flag, but not a dealbreaker... I have no issue with a man being open about his personal opinions.

But some of his opinions on "a woman's place" went far beyond that. Some of the quotes I heard attributed to him were horrifying and vile. Having Vance as a running mate will only hurt Trump's campaign... and Trump also made only a modest effort at distancing himself from Project 2025. He needs to be abundantly clear that he opposes it and continue talking about Agenda 47 which everyone seems to think is pretty great.

American politics seems about as "real" as professional wrestling. We need a new plague.
