Figured it would be best to start a new thread rather than add to the other Trump Rally shooting thread.

An excerpt from an article on The Telegraph website:

"Crooks manages to fire off three shots in the space of two seconds before the snipers manage to return fire."

"Two seconds after the last of the three shots is fired by Crooks, the snipers fire off five shots in rapid succession in less than a second."

5 shots at Crooks in less than a second? We know there were 4 sniper teams but I can't imagine they all had a line of sight on Crooks. We're some of them using semi-auto sniper rifles? Was he also engaged by an M4 from the ground? Just looking to satisfy my curiosity as to what happened.

Watch a video from Fieldcraft Survival which was not so much about analysis than getting facts sorted out from "inside information." Take it as you like.

Anyway, he said that the team that took down the shooter used an SR25. The guys in all the photos didn't get a shot off.

ABC News reported today: "Briefers told lawmakers Crooks purchased the ammo box at Walmart on July 5, two days after the rally was announced."

How did the shooter purchase 50rds of .223 or 5.56 ammo from Walmart when Walmart stopped selling that caliber of ammo in 2009/2010?

Damn good question.

I'm not sure how accurate the report is............... but a 50rd box is pistol ammo (ie 9mm) not rifle.
Rifle is usually a 20rd box.

I agree that rifle is usually 20rd boxes but...969739697496975

I'm pretty certain rural Walmarts still sell rifle ammo. Some still sell guns.

No Walmart said after that shooting in a Walmart they weren’t going to sell assault rifle ammo or pistol ammo anymore

I'm certain the Walmart near me quit selling it more recently. Like less than 5 years ago you could buy 5.56 bulk.

Yeah it’s been within 5 years or so.

Edit September 2019

Yup- All .223 and 5.56mm went bye-bye, even JSP hunting loads. There was an inexplicable increase in green-box .222 Rem, often taking much self-space. The funny thing is that XM80 buik 7.62mm NATO is still OK.

Recently eye-rolling were the cackling witches on The View having a case of the vapors over the fact that a 20 year old could buy 50 rounds of ammo without arousing suspicion or being reported. They really have no clue...

Alleged shooter fired 8 rounds. SS CS fired one in return.
Fired from a KAC SR-25, likely 7.62 NATO, but possibly 6.5 Creedmore or similiar.

Has anyone seen a hi-res picture of the Dead guys rifle?

That was a question I have too. We immediately got a close up picture of the bloody dead guy, so why not his rifle? Or literally anything else he had?

It is probably considered "CLASSIFIED" at this point. I read it was a DPMS product.

The Washington Posts reports, "On the morning of the shooting, Crooks bought 50 rounds of ammunition at a local gun store called Allegheny Arms, according to the person familiar with the investigation."
