Shipping firearms out of state.

I?m getting conflicting info based on various sites. Bottom line is I?m trying to ship a rifle out of state as an individual to an FFL.
looks like USPS will take it. FedEx has conflicting information. And looks like UPS won?t take it.

anyone done this recently and have up to date advice?

Rifles and shotguns may be mailed by a non-FFL owner domestically to a FFL dealer, manufacturer, or importer in any state. These items must be mailed using a class of mail, product, or Extra Service that provides tracking and signature capture at delivery.

I've never used them to ship a rifle, only a couple of handguns that I sold on GunBroker. easy to deal with and likely less expensive than doing it yourself.

I just did a test with a rifle from Denver to New York, $28.47.

Yes, pack it up..........go to the hub on Ivy St (56th?) and done.
I did it about 4mo ago.
Be friendly and they will in return.

I shipped a carbine in for warranty work and when they sent me the prepaid shipping slip I took it to a Walgreens Fed Ex pick site.
No questions asked of what I was sending. It was shipped right back to my home a few weeks later! I thought that was funny, a Walgreens!!!!

Did this last week. I used PirateShip and shipped it via Priority Mail.
Pack it up, print the label, insure it, and require a signature. Drop it off at USPS. They will scan it and give you a receipt.
They don't ask what it is, and you tell them nothing.

You are correct that FedEx and UPS wont accept a firearm for shipment from an individual.
You cannot schedule a pick-up and you can't drop it off at a counter (this started up in the past year thanks to ATF insisting on changes).
You have never been allowed to drop off a firearm at any of the contractors that accept packages for UPS or FedEx, they legally cannot hold, store or handle firearms.

Now, I notice that "don't tell the shipper it is a firearm" gets mentioned.
Certainly DO NOT mark the exterior of the box to indicate it contains a firearm.
Understand that both UPS and FedEx clearly state that if you violate their shipping rules the contents of the package are considered contraband and if they discover the violation the contraband is destroyed.
They also state that you will be banned from using their shipping services.
So, no claims if the package gets lost or damaged.
FedEx and UPS do screen packages for "security purposes" particularly if they are going aboard a cargo plane.

APEX has both a FedEx and a UPS rep that comes to visit us.
When these new rules went into effect they came and briefed us and made us sign a document indicating that we had been presented and understood the rules.
