That's where I go, Where abouts do you guys go? I like the archery season cause you get the early jump on the shotgunners. I got one under my belt with a bow (24 lbs W/9" beard) and I share a kill with a buddy using a recurve (26 lbs W/ double beard 9" & 11") Shot at a couple with the 12 gauge but couldn't ever claim one as my own but, the same hunting buddy killed the one I wounded. Two halfs make a whole dosen't it? lol! [LOL] I used to stay in a camper by the lake in years past but, sence then I bought my Cousins house in town and I've never been happier. The conforts of home and only a cup of coffee away from the hunting area! Benkelman to Trenton

I'm pumped as well! I'll be hunting in TN this year since I moved here. Also taking a trip to SC. I'll never fill both tags but I have the opportunity to bag 9 birds. 4 in TN and 5 in SC. Knowing my luck and skill (or lack there of) I'll get (0) but what the hell being in the woods chasing birds is where its at in the spring!

hell if you can shoot a shotgun like you did a rifle at the p-dogs you might just limit out as long as you see the birds!
of course I am sure I got at least 1 more p dog than you, but whos countin[ROFL2][ROFL3]

I just started turkey hunting last year. In the fall I went down to the Canyon city area. Saw lots of hens. I'll be giving U-84 another try. I saw flocks of goblers on my way deer hunting in Gilpin County.
well I screwed up for turkey...I though the close date was the 15th. I logged in, and found out it was the 12th. so....guess I am going in the fall now.[Bang]

Just off of 285. Nat Forest.

Any of you seeing any? I have seen at least 100 in the last few days. Toms in full strut too!
Sniper....just get the over the counter type. I like ronaldrwl use to go down to south of Canyon City area and see em' every time. I know a great spot and good camping area too. I had some two years ago hit on the roost in my camp site while I was making coffee. Needless to say I didn't get to drink coffee that morning!
Making the trek to Nebraska again this year. We will be hunting them outside of South Sioux City Nebraska on the Missouri River. I have 3 permits this year. They have so many birds up there I should be able to fill all three tags.

Are you going? We could join up. I went there last year and did see lots of hens. Also, the crazy castle guy is down there. Also like to see what progress he is making.

Not this year. I have since moved to TN as of last July. I'm going to SC and of course hunting in my own back yard, TN. No CO turkeys for me this year. Thanks for the invite/offer though!

I bet it's tough, stringy and foul tasting.
heading out this week, i'll post the results![Beer]
My buddy shot a turkey Saturday. Went out just that one day worked on getting closer to one tom responding to his call and six toms walked in front of him. His first Colorado turkey after accumulating seven preference points for the drawing. I am happy for him.

Wow, 7 pts. What unit requires that?
He told me it was the Bosque Del Oso State Wildlife area. Hope I spelled that correctly. It is west of Trinidad. It supposedly has the second largest Elk herd in the state. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation helped the state buy the area somtime around 1998.
Evidently it is a great turkey area also.

Yes,, I was lucky enough to draw there the first year.. Never saw a Cow elk, which I drew for.. Saw plenty of bulls and Turkeys..
At the time,, Saw a flock big enough, and close enough, All I needed to do was start swinging the rifle,,

I was going to try that spot a few weeks ago but it was to wet/snowing that weekend. Last year that area had turkeys in abundance. I'm thinking of trying more south west.

We heard 1 or 2 big gobblers. They were not talking at all. We went up on Friday night and saw 15 or so. We were up and out in the blinds at 5am,and then nothing. Cold, snowy and rain did not help us out. I took the two other guys in my group over to see Jim. We spents about an hour listening to his current rant/ same old thing.
dang that stinks. my buddy said he hasn't seen any on his property and usually there is 25-30 of them every day that come through.
I see them all the time near my dads house along the platte, but that group has been there for probably 10+ years (that I know of and have seen them), and always stay in that area where they know they are protected.
I did see a hen almost get taken out by a car on highway 7, the person driving damn near caused a 5 car pile up.
Saw 13 hens on the way back from Lower bailey around 3:30 or so...
