View Full Version : Dpms Lr-308 Ap4
I'm receiving my new DPMS LR-308 AP4 next week, and I'm more than excited. I paid 995 plus 15 for shipping and its gonna cost 25 for the FFL, so 1035 total. I'm feeling pretty good about the price I paid...comes with all the stuff they do, two mags, sling, rifle, case, and I think a cleaning kit.
Bought two boxes of .308 180g today from Sports Authority, almost 23 a box, 20 rounds per box.......
Went online to cheaperthandirt.com, and found 147g for little under 7 bucks a box, ordered 300 rounds, and I ordered 300 rounds for my g21sf since 45 acp is extinct...
So rifle and ammo are on their way, should have everything by the middle or end of next week....
Now should I order a couple magpuls magazines? or what kind of magazines should I order....I know DPMS magazines aren't the best...
I want to get everything ordered so this up coming weekend I can spend a long day sighting the rifle in.....Since I have to clean the rifle after every shot, it should be a long one and I'm really looking forward to it.
This is my first rifle, I'm really new to owning/buying my own guns.....Been shooting since I was a little guy with my dad, but now I'm getting my own collection and I'm smiling ear to ear....

sounds like you got a pretty good deal on that DPMS!
Most of us boycot cheaperthandirt since they gouged their prices to ridiculous levels during the first part of obamas presidency!
Magpul is the way to go! Great prices and the things are tough!
Welcome to the forums, welcome to having black rifle disease and don't worry you will be getting another one in no time![Beer]
Magpull and C-products both work 100% for me. Only problem with magpull is they don't fit in my 308 mag pouches.
The ONLY mags I'll run in my LR308 are pmags.

Really? Seems like every time I go in they have some on the wall.

I put a JP Trigger in mine. If you don't need a battle trigger I like the offerings from JP.
Jer, whats a battle trigger? from the sounds of it I feel like I want one, lol

Maybe you do, maybe you don't. Depends on the intended use of the firearm in question. A battle trigger is simple and basic. It works every time because it has to because lives are on the line. A competition trigger has more adjustments for fine tuning but these adjustments also tend to lower reliability. So when you build a firearm it's always important to keep the intended use in mind when deciding on parts. You don't want a competition trigger in something you anticipate reaching for if someone's life is on the line.
Perfect example: over Christmas I took my LR308 back to Nebraska along with a few other guns to shoot. I took it out of my rifle bag and connected upper to lower and when I went to shoot it... nothing. Took it apart and realized the front set screw on the JP had worked it's way down a couple mm but where I keep it set to break instantly it doesn't take much. A little Loc-tight will fix that for good but the point is had that been a defense situation it would have been the WRONG time to find out.
In my 'go-to' AR15 I have the mil-spec LMT trigger that came with kit and JP springs for a lighter pull. Nothing else. Not as crisp or travel free as the LR308 but I know it will work w/o fail every time I pull it.
So when building a firearm know the difference between battle parts and non-battle parts as well as your intended use.
would the rra two stage be a battle trigger? that is what I was gonna go with.

Stock trigger that is in the rifle-only good for battle.
If you are planning on doing any long range work a good trigger is a neccesity.
I put a J&P in mine and I am VERY happy with it.
brought it home friday, took it apart and cleaned it, this morning went up lefthand to shoot it, fired 100 rounds without and malfunction, way too much fun to shoot, not much recoil, magpuls looked great and did their job...all in all i freaking love this rifle, looks great! i dont have any experiance with other trigger but i didnt mind this one, only other gun is a glock so its a lot different then that trigger, but i didnt mind it.....

I don't even want to hear it. I just picked up a new bolt rifle in .338 Lapua yesterday which makes shooting my LR308 seem like shooting BB's in a cost comparison.

.338 Lapua? You may have to take a second mortgage out on your soul!

Not sure where your at, but look at my post in buyers intel for Cavim 7.62 NATO. The brass is reloadable, and it's a pretty good price for milspec ammo.
