Took my neighbor to the range and shot all day yesterday - we had a real a good time.
We didn't leave the range till sundown around 5.
I was finishing up a box of 9mm - putting it through my Beretta 92FS before packing up - thought I'd do a mag change drill - here is the result:
http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac313/funkfoolery/0116101605b.jpg
27 rounds at 30 feet in around 20 seconds.
Left flier is last round of 1st mag before mag change... my brain was already thinking of the change I guess.
I know I'm not breaking any records - just trying to be smooth and accurate with some thought to speed.
Thoughts?
How did things go for you?
What do you drill on?

Good shootin' there!

As for me, I shot my best score yet at the PD match out at PWSA on Saturday. Today, I busted some milk jugs out at 100 and 200 with my AR out in my back field.

I let my little three year old twin girls observe the world through a rifle scope for the first time as well. Rifle was unloaded and action open, of course. They're too little to shoot yet, but its never too early to start laying the foundation.

I'll see if I can post pics of the twins sighting through the scope on the AR later.

I'm starting to get a modicum of control and good (well, better) groups with my new S&W 642 at 7 yards. And I'm loving the .45 I got just after Christmas. I only had Blazer ammo for it, but they let me shoot it as long as I policed up all the cases and dumped then in the trash. I got a case of 250 rounds on Friday, but it's going to be very hard not to burn through them all before my dad comes to visit in a couple of weeks :D

I agree, nice shootin'.

I missed a chance to get out to Dragon Man's (Colo Spr area) yesterday with 3 of my co-workers. I probably should have gone but I've been feeling a bit under the weather lately and figured I needed to lay on the couch under a blanket instead.

Hopefully we'll have a couple more weeks of nice weekends before it gets nasty again and I'll get out and pass some lead through my barrel. I still haven't shot my GSG-5 carbine that I purchased last Spring or my Rock Island 1911 either. Of course, I've got a couple of things I need to do to the 1911 first, so....

I hope that those of you who did get a chance to make it out had a great time. It's fantastic hearing your stories.

It's a Para Companion C7 LDA that I bought from a member here. I'd never fired a .45 before it (mostly 9mm) but it's not going to be the last one I own.

Nice shooting! I was out as well trying out a new (to me) toy. Where did you shoot at?

I shot the HPPS match out at BLGC on Sat, and the Weld match on Sunday. I shot two of the best matches I've ever shot. It was a really good weekend for me. I didn't take any video of the HPPS match as the wife had the camera. Charlie did video me on four of the five stages out at Weld though. I posted them on the Weld thread.

I recorded Charlie's runs too. We'll see if he throws them in there. He had a really good match and was just shredding stages when he remembered to unlock his holster [Tooth].

I am a member of the Frontier Sportsmans Assn. I shoot out at their Fountain range. There were less than 7 or 8 shooters out there and none on our range - it is like being alone out there.

SA Friday - went and watched the videos - good shooting!
I need to get involved in something like IDPA. Something I can shoot using the gear I already have.
Ok - this year I am going to do it.

What gear do you have? I would be suprised if we couldn't fit it in to a USPSA division somewhere. Enough mags and mag holders is usually the factor lacking. A 92FS fits in Production Division and Limited (minor) Division pretty easy. It fits best in Production division, and I've known a couple GM's that can straight up shred with one of those. 5 mags, 4 mag pouches, a decent holster, some ammo and get your butt out there.

We have one guy that shoots matches with a Sig P226, IWB holster, and draws from concealment at every match. He's a solid B class shooter, and shoots to practice with his carry gear. He kicked my ass for two years straight.

That's totally me. I show up in a polo like I would wear at work.

That is what I would want to use this type of training for: to improve and reinforce my concealed carry abilities.
I have a Kimber .45 w/ 2 std. cap mags ( Been meaning to get more) - Galco IWB and mag holder.
Beretta 92FS, kydex paddle OWB with many hi cap mags.
Then my normal carry rig:
Ruger SP101 .357 (KSP-321XL), IWB, two speedloaders and belt pouch. - 5 shot - so probably not as practical for this type competition?

There is a guy who does the matches at Boulder Rifle Club with a .357 revolver. He has this ridiculous rig that goes on his belt and holds like 9 fully loaded moon clips for his revolver. It looks like he is walking around a stadium giving out change from rolls of quarters or something. It has three rods about 8 inches long sticking straight up into the air that he just slides the loaded moon clips onto. Not exactly a concealment rig.

The 92FS would be the way to go out of that gear. 9mm ammo is cheaper, you already have the gear needed as long as you have the mag pouches. Try it out with what you have. No need to invest.

Plus it would be nice to see another Beretta out there. I get kinda lonely. :)

Do a safety orientation, and then shoot a match. We do safety orientations at HPPS and PPPS before the matches. I'm not sure what Aurora, Weld and Clear Creek are doing.

Check out pretty much all the shooting in eastern CO here:

www.ecouspsa.com (http://www.ecouspsa.com)

and the USPSA rules here:

SA, I wish they were closer to me I might try to improve what basic skills I have. Anything up at the Boulder rifle range? Edit: I see one on the 31st, is that open to a newbie?

funk, I was shooting an 870 I picked up a few weeks ago. Had some issues with it but I think it was me and a little polishing needed on the chamber bore. We'll see later this week.

Go to www.ecouspsa.com (http://www.ecouspsa.com) and contact the president of the Boulder club and see what he can do. I wouldn't be suprised if he can set something up for you.

I've posted about the Boulder Rifle Club shoots at least 3 times in the last two days. There are 3 shoots just like this at the BRC. Check it out here:

The calendar isn't update for 2010 yet, but the days are the same.
The indoor combat matches are the first Friday NIGHT of the month.
Defensive pistol matches are 3rd Saturday morning of the month.
They also do an I.S.P.C. match on the fifth weekend (so about 6 matches per year).

The indoor combat matches and Defensive pistol matches aren't affiliated with any national organization, so you won't be doing a classifier match to get on any matches, but the rules and scoring are the same enough to introduce you to the sport. It's a really fun time. I'm trying to make it to as many as I can this year, so let me know if you can make it to the next one and I'll let you know if I'll be able to make it!

Stuart, I'm going to put the Indoor Combat Match on my calendar. Feb 5th 2010 at 7:00. I will call and see what I need to do prior to the event so I can participate. If you can make it that would be great I need someone to show me the ropes [Slap]

I'm just looking for more range time and training so being ranked is not important to me. I did join Trigger Time in Longmont which starts orientation this week. Pistol section should be open next week.

All you really need is a holster and some magazines. I agree with Fryday that the Beretta sounds like it has all you need. Do you have a mag holster at all? I've just got one.

Those night time matches go from easy one week, moderate the next, then difficult the next (from what I understand). The one I did was all B-zone or better (head shots) and I really sucked it up.

You basically just show up and pay $15. They have a short shooters meeting, split the shooters up into how ever many groups as they have stages, then you go to the shooting room. It is all in one room and they split it in half and run a stage on either side. They explain how each stage is supposed to be run, then have people start shooting. The later you show up, the closer to the beginning of the list of shooters you are. Just ask to be not first so you can see a few people shoot before you to get a feel for how to run the stage.

I think I'm going to get a hold of a cheap Fobus OWB holster for my CZ and try shooting a match with it. That will save me some money since I only have 9mm ammo right now anyway.

All right - I need to pick out a match to go to... I am on the S/W side of the Springs and saw the next PPPS match is Feb 14 - Valentines day - 8AM till 4 or so... That appears to be the closest (distance and time) wise for me.(?)
I guess I better take the wife somewhere nice the 13th instead - or make sure I have time to get home for a shower.

I tried to make a shoot last year on Valentine's Day and planned to go rock climbing at 1:30 the same day. Fortunately I was violently sick that morning and missed both, which was preferable to making the match and getting into trouble for screwing up the rest of the day.

The next match closest to you will be the Whistling Pines match the beginning of Feb. Make sure to contact Hoser before the match and I'm sure he can arrange to do a safety orientation with you.

Wait, I have been waiting for Trigger Time to contact me about that. How did you get your notice? I get the email news letters, but haven't seen one for about a month now. I have been signed up for just about a year now.

Should I give him another ring? I know he is busy, but dang I wanna use that 100yd indoor range.

I went to the gun show in Longmont and Trigger Time had a booth set up. I talked to one of the employees and this is the info I was given. They will start contacting members Thursday 1-21-10 based on where you are on the list (sign up date) for orientation. They are still working on opening the rifle section and that will take a little longer. This is the information I was given last Sunday.
