A lot of famous people have been dying lately.

Just today was Dikembe Mutombo, Pete Rose and Kris Kristofferson.

Rose was my favorite growing up. I loved playing 1st base and would dive headfirst into bases which was forbidden in my little league.

I have been a Nuggets fan since I was a little kid. When the Nuggies beat Seattle in '94, I was living in Seattle and proudly wore my Nuggets hat.

I'm sure Arnold Schwarzenegger and Clint Eastwood will be soon, as all my childhood heroes are getting to be that age- proof I'm not getting any younger either.

Dikembe Mutombo... eddiememphis was in Seattle, I was in the stands for games 3, 4, and 5. McNichols Arena. The place went wild. All three games. I still have the towel they gave out at one of the games... 5287.2 feet in elevation. :)

John Ashton also just passed. Probably most famous for the role of Sgt. Taggert in Beverly Hills Cop but I also thought he was great as Marvin the bounty hunter in Midnight Run. He also lived in Ft. Collins. I had the pleasure of first meeting him years ago when he testified at the state capitol at a committee hearing on a bill to give tax cuts to film productions. This state lost multi-millions in revenue by killing the bill, it would?ve more than made up the breaks. A very nice guy.

https://www.westword.com/arts/colorado-castle-builder-jim-bishop-passes-away-22588005

Bishop was just fifteen in 1959 when he paid $450 for a two-and-a-half-acre parcel of land at 9,000 feet in the San Isabel National Forest, just outside the tiny town of Rye.

An ironworker by trade, the Pueblo resident labored on weekends, mostly singlehandedly on what was intended to be a small cottage. More than five decades later it stands about 165 feet tall, boasts stained glass windows and is topped by a metal dragon that can breathe smoke from a woodstove inside.

“Without cranes, without money, without a rich daddy. By hand. High school dropout. I work for a living. I paid as I went. No bankers, no loans, no blueprints, no inspections. A place of freedom. A fight for freedom,” Bishop said in a NPR interview in 1994.

It has been described as "authentically dangerous," by more than one visitor.

Malcolm Smith, one of the most successful and well-known racers in American moto history, has died at age 83.

However, he was probably best-known in the US for his appearance in On Any Sunday, the film that inspired and also defined an entire generation of Baby Boomer riding.

He was one of my motorcycle heroes, along with Rick Seimen, founder of Dirt Bike magazine, who died last year.

Actor Gene Hackman died of heart disease a full week after his wife died from hantavirus in their New Mexico hillside home, and he may not have been aware she was dead because he showed severe signs of Alzheimer’s disease, authorities revealed Friday.

“Mr. Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer’s disease,” Jarrell said. “He was in a very poor state of health. He had significant heart disease, and I think ultimately that’s what resulted in his death.”

Brownells sadly announces the death of long-time family patriarch Frank Brownell, who successively held the positions of President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board at Brownells.

For nearly six decades, Frank?s passion, vision, and generosity shaped not only Brownells, but the entire firearms community. Friends and customers alike remember him greeting ?long lines of friends? at SHOT Show and the NRA Annual Meetings, championing gunsmithing, and driving industry innovation.

From marketing the now-iconic Latigo Sling at the 1964 NRA convention to elevating gunsmithing as a respected profession, his influence can be seen in countless shops, ranges, and workbenches across America.

An industry innovator, he helped establish Brownells as a nationwide legacy retailer in the gunsmithing, gun parts, and firearms space. He helped advance the best model for working with and developing endemic industry media. He advocated for elevating gunsmithing to a respected profession and created new ways to support and develop the growth of gunsmithing, gun ownership, and gun culture.

Friends, colleagues, and customers are encouraged to honor Frank by sharing memories, supporting aspiring gunsmiths, or simply spending time at the bench, just as he loved to do.

Anne Burrell dies at 55.

Sorry for anyone who dies at a relatively young age but I was never a fan of hers or her cooking. Her repartee wasn't particularly witty and while she didn't go for extravagant crap like Bobby Flay, she didn't have the food science down like Alton Brown or the flair of some of the other chefs. It always seemed to me that Food Network was pushing her for reasons other than her cooking.

On that note, Food Network made Rachael Ray famous and that gal was/is a complete hack in the kitchen! She's more suited for a show about microwaving frozen dinners than actually using pots and pans. [ROFL1]

Well, I wasn't the biggest fan. First saw her on Iron Chef America, where she seemed to be the "head down" helper.

Saw her in more shows and she always looked stiff like she was the "bit^#". The "iron clad look" got old but seems to be a theme on the FN.

Saw some out takes and she looked more normal. FN likes "a look". Do not veir from it.

Peter David died on May 24. He was an avowed Leftist but wrote some excellent science fiction stories and comic books.

More brutal (to me) was Jim Shooter dying yesterday. Jim Shooter started working for DC comics at the age of 14 but he wrote better than most people 3 times his age. He revitalized Marvel comics at a time when they desperately needed some discipline, giving us Chris Claremont's X-men, Walt Simonson's Thor, and Frank Miller's Daredevil. https://comicbookclublive.com/2025/06/30/jim-shooter-dies-age-73/

I didn't actually say WHEN he died!

My Dad always said 3 things happen when you get old, #1, your memory starts to fade, and I can't remember the other 2.

I was so surprised a few weeks ago when Ozzy performed in a concert. With all of his health issues it had to have taken a toll.

I've always enjoyed Ozzy's music, both from his solo career and his time with Black Sabbath. Plus, his unique personality was always fun to watch.

Another icon from my youth, gone as is my youth.

He knew the price it would cost him for that one last ride. Of course he still did it... He's Ozzy fucking Osborne! [rockon] [Evil][Ban3]

Ozzy is/was an icon. My daughters grew up listening to him and Black Sabbat (amongst others) and my oldest texted me late this morning with the sad news.

RIP Ozzy.

I'm not sure science could draw any conclusions from his body that would be applicable to the general population. I can see it now:

CORONER: Deceased male, aged 76. From all physical signs, he should have died of various organ failures 25 years ago ...

Medics were dispatched to the 71-year-old WWE legend's Clearwater, Florida home early Thursday morning ... with operators stating it was regarding a "cardiac arrest."

The Hulkster seemed to be an invincible hero in wrestling and a genuine good person in public. I liked the shirt rip he did at Trumps 2024 Madison Square Garden's Rally. He had a good run!

RIP to the best ever!

When I lived in Tucson a long time ago the U of A had a great performing artists program. One of the shows I went to was to Chuck Mangione, wonderful concert. The album had recently been released.

I always was entertained by Hulk Hogan, he had some weird shit go down in his later years but just seemed really likeable.

He tore off his shirt for Trump, so of course Slate decided he is a horrible person.

https://slate.com/culture/2025/07/hulk-hogan-died-death-news-cause-trump.html

Everyone Hated Hulk Hogan

The most famous pro wrestler in history died as a villain who was all too real... a conniving and sadistically opportunistic person...

For instance: In 1993 Hogan outmaneuvered Bret Hart—another one of the greatest wrestlers of all time—by persuading company Chairman Vince McMahon to alter the ending of WrestleMania IX at the last minute.

Hogan was the vessel for one of Peter Thiel’s first forays into political donorship, when the tech baron dumped oodles of cash into a lawsuit that brought about the destruction of Gawker Media.

In 1986 Hogan committed perhaps his greatest sin, when he scuttled a burgeoning unionization effort in the WWE.

What a bunch of crap. Had he been on the podium for Kamala, this garbage article would never had been written.
