Been around for a while, quite a few to pick from, what are the favorites and why?

Staccato if you have $$$ to spend, MAC DS9 if you don't.

The three I am looking at, all 9mm:

Stealth Arms Platypus, uses glock 17 mags, and is extremely customizable on their website.

Staccato (formerly STI) highly respected, certified by many police departments for duty use. Expensive mag system. Very flat shooting.

Hybrid: Dan Wesson DWX, CZ75 Shadow lower mated to a 1911 upper. I like the ergonomics of my Shadow 2, but feel the slide doesn’t have enough grip area

Have an STI 4.25 Tactical in 9mm. I did modify the grip to fit my smaller hands better with a double undercut. Factory mags suck and need tuning in my gun. Trigger is around 4-4.5lbs and could be better for the price, but it shoots soft and very flat.

I have an STI frame in .38 Super. Got me to the USPSA Nationals a couple of times and I love the fit and feel of the frame.

YMMV depending on your hand.

Anyone have thoughts on the Springfield Prodigy line? Or the RIA double stacks?

Anyone have thoughts on the Springfield Prodigy line? Or the RIA double stacks?

I have a Prodigy, MAC Defense and RIA all in 9mm. The Prodigy had some running issues until I put in the EGW Ignition Kit, now runs smooth. The MAC Defense I have not shot yet, and RIA I've put 50 rounds through it with no issues. If I were to start over, I would have probably waited for the Tisas to drop to the price is now for $500+/-

$530 shipped is a great price. Just understand that Family will not swap or exchange the (2) 17rd magazines.

Unfortunately, a lot of gun stores online have stopped doing this. It's the world we live in now, at least in this state.

I bought a 5? Prodigy a year ago. The shop had 4, I checked them all out and picked the one with the best trigger, 4.3 lbs, and the smoothest slide/frame fit/function. I have made 4 subtle changes: an EGW slide release as the factory piece is too thin for me to engage with my thumb, a front night sight, one piece guide rod and a steel mainspring housing.

It?s been flawless with every type of ammo I?ve tried and very accurate. I normally keep a TLR-1 HL light on it and it?s the first one out of the safe and close at hand in my truck. Couldn?t be happier with it.

The 1911 has been my preferred pistol since I learned to shoot 56 years ago, have a few higher end versions and enjoy the Prodigy almost as much as them.

Here it is with one of my Les Baer pistols (bought on this forum btw) from recent range outing

I bought one of the first production 4.25 Prodigies - we initially had numerous FTF issues with it. I contacted Springfield and they sent us a completely new slide which fixed the issue in just a couple of weeks there and back.

Once we got it back, it shot great and was truly fun pistol. Last week, we did some easy upgrades to the pistol: Atlas one-piece guide rod, 14# spring, Tri Arc extended slide stop and are likely to buy the EGW ignition kit next.

Initially we had a Vortex viper (which fit on the included AOS plate) but it malfunctioned and sent it in to Vortex for repair. Under warranty Vortex sent us a new Defender ST and included a 15B AOS plate for the RMR footprint!

My son is shooting it in boiling pin and loving it. The pistol is so much fun to shoot we are looking for another (see WTB).

PS, I've been in Colorado Springs on and off during numerous assignments since 2002. We moved back from the beltway after retirement in 2020. I joined this board while living here in 2009 and simply haven't posted here - however I am active on 1911 Addicts forum (different user name and Sig Talk). I was member of WPGC and now DCF, not really a newbie or a troll....thanks for listening.

We have a RIA double stack 45 as a rental at Silverbullet.
I has been our 45 rental for close to two years now and running.
Lots of rounds, no issues.
Keeps on ticking...

Months ago I picked up a Tisas DS9 Carry for $562 shipped, stuck a Holosun on it, and I couldn't be happier. Recommended.

Check out the MAC 9 DS--which i think is made by Tisas as well. It seems to be one of the most popular budget 2011s. You can get it in 4.25, with our without a comp, and in 5" (also with or without a comp)

So PSA ran a great sale last Sunday on the MAC and I jumped all over it only to find that they will not ship it to Colorado.

When I put it in the cart their blue box popped up telling me that they may pull the mags if my state restricted them. I figured as much and ok fine. But when went to check out, the red box popped up and said Colorado had restrictions that would not allow the order to be shipped in.

I spoke to a CSR who sent a request to compliance dept to check it. According to the restrictions PSA lists, pulling the mags should have sufficed.

Oh well, on to the next plan.

crappy. $649 right now. Was that the final word from their compliance folks, or just the same situation as Sunday?

Ended up winning a Tisas BR9 on GB. Seller pulled mags and shipped no issue. Got a good enough deal my tight azz won't get too red.

At the same time I ordered 15rd mags for Prodigy and I must have missed something in my research cause they will not work. Too short to engage mag release and base plates too large for mag well.

So it is a paper weight til I get the mag issue worked out. Anybody need any SA mags?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Tisas/s/pdhMfcNWomThe post I missed, looked thru a ton of the Reddit threads(and hours of various forums) before I ordered mags.

Neither the mag well or base plates are such that mods would be a good idea.
