I managed to lose the magazine for my .308 Ruger American Predator. It’s up in GMU 50. This is one of the original factory flush-fit rotary magazines. The release lever probably caught on my jacket or pack when I was slinging/unslinging the rifle and I didn’t notice when the magazine fell to the ground. The wisdom of a non-detachable top-feed only magazine design on a hunting rifle suddenly made a lot more sense to me.

I need a replacement magazine. The simple “replace it” route became muddied when I read that folks are requesting the AI magazine conversion kit from Ruger and going that route. Ive never had an issue feeding cartridges with the rotary magazine that came with the rifle, but now there are options to consider.

I’d like to request any insights from those of you that have tried something other than the Ruger factory rotary mag.

Put it in a MAGPUL Hunter American stock and any AICS magazine will fit.

Sounds like a good reason to buy a new gun to me :)
Sorry I know that’s not what you asked.

If the stock fits you and you like it get another factory mag and be done. If you dont like the factory stock take Berts advice and get a magpull stock and use AI mags.

Replacement flush-fit factory rotary magazine is on its way. Thanks all.

The description of the magazine on GunMagWarehouse specifically mentions lost magazines on a hunt. Made me chuckle.

Whether for quick reloads in the field, or as a precaution against a lost magazine on a hunt...

But if you do the MAGPUL stock you get an aluminum bed for the action, adjustable LOP and comb height.

if your stock has the replaceable magwell call Ruger and they will sell you the AICS version to swap in the right color. I did this on a predator 308 (AI pattern) & predator 7.62x39 (AR pattern)
