2 people taking part in a Civil Air Patrol search and rescue exercise in Colorado were killed, and one other severely injured in a plane crash in a wooded area of Larimer County.
Larimer County Sheriff's Office statement:
"This morning at approximately 11:12am, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a plane crash in the area of Storm Mountain."
"Colorado Civil Air Patrol has confirmed the plane, belonging to the Thompson Valley Composite Squadron, was conducting a routine training mission"
Prayers go out to the survivor, and the family / friend of those killed.
I was an active Civil Air Patrol cadet in Pennsylvania for 5 years before I went into the Air Force. Participated in a few search and rescue missions, and many training missions, including as a cadet aerial observer, and part of the ground search and rescue teams. Very few people realize CAP even exists, and only a few of those realize the important search and rescue work that they do.
