It's reported that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621 with English colonists and the Wampanoag people.

The celebration was to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and for the colonists to thank the Wampanoag people for helping them settle and survive in their new land.

As humans, we seem to have a natural inclination to focus on the bitterness in our lives. War, destruction, losses and disagreements take a front seat while the blessings we receive often times go unnoticed.

Thanksgiving is a day for us to pause and take notice of our blessings. Most importantly, for those of us with a faith in a supreme being (God; okay?!), to give thanks to Him for all that we have.

So today we give thanks. We give thanks for the many blessings in our lives.

Among my many blessings, I want to give thanks for YOU, the Colorado AR-15 community. While we're often too ready to express our differences, we have a lot in common and share a fellowship within this community that I don't experience any place else.

Thank you, COAR-15 members & HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We're thankful for the house full of kids and grandkids that were here for the past few days. Now we're thankful they're gone! [ROFL1]

Thankful for the promise of new hope for the country, for this forum and the friends I've made here. I don't have everything I want...but I have so much more than I've ever needed in this life. I'm also just happy to still be alive and kickin'.

Thanks to Ginsue and to all the COAR-15 members for making this a great place to hang out. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Most of all, I'm grateful for Mrs. Hummer, who I've known all her life. We're so well suited. As she does every year, she roasted a turkey with all the fixin's. She is an outstanding, creative cook, five star. I spent the day clearing snow, and kept a hot fire going in our new wood stove. In the evening, a bull moose grunted hello as he trotted through the yard.

On Wednesday, Dan Caplis aired a 24 minute Rush Limbaugh radio broadcast, "The True Story of Thanksgiving". It is a more complete story of the great Pilgrim migration from the journey on the Mayflower through their struggles surviving commune life. It's a revealing account very much worth the few minutes of listening.
