Uneven tire wear

I took my 2019 ram 3500 dually back to the shop today because of the front tires. I was told the pressure was too low which was causing the uneven wear, both front tires are at 65 psi, which he said should be at 80psi. It is on the outside of both front tires. The truck was aligned when the new tires were put on. These tires have 6000 miles on them. In 30k miles, this is my 4 th set on the front end. It has been aligned twice in those 30k miles. Is this normal for a dually and I?m just ignorant about them? The tires did not get rotated as they were already in bad shape at 5 k miles.

The firsttire is the passenger. Before the last alignment, the driver side wore to the cords first. Now the passenger side is to the cords. Do duallys usually wear tires this fast and or uneven? The dealership said it is normal wear. The shop says it is from low pressure.

When's the last time you had the front end shook down? Those Dodges/Ram are notorious eating balljoints and shocks. Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like those tires are chopping are too.

That is certainly an alignment issue. A quick google search shows that the factory alignment specs suck and will cause this. Most refer to a Thuren spec so you may want to look up that alignment spec and find a place that will do it for you.

My limited knowledge leads me to believe low tire pressure would show wear on both shoulders, not just one, but I'm no tire guru.
Can anyone more knowledgeable confirm?

It was gone over and aligned 6000 miles ago when these tires were put on. When I purchased the truck, it had 24k miles on it and the tires looked like this. They put new tires on, aligned it and it cut the tires off again. I took it to a more trusted shop this last time, they checked the front end and said all was good, it was just out of alignment. The truck just turned 54k miles.

its alignment. low pressure causes wear on both shoulders at once. bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends are the most likely

54k seems low for needing new front end parts, but not unheard of. Ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.

Knowing that a shop "aligned" this truck and didn't notice worn out parts suggests they suck at their job.

At 110k miles, I spent a small fortune on my '08 to tighten the front end back up, get rid of death wobble, etc.

Seriously you’ve got mechanical issues to contend with - jack it up securely and start wiggling- look for un natural movement. Check camber & toe.
How much towing do you do with it? We used to see wear like that on Ford tow trucks that had the Twin I Beam front ends. Make sure your axle loadings are correct.

At 5k miles what kind of shit-tastic tires are they? When I had my dually I slapped Firestones on it which were far from a premium tire and I got 45k out of them

This set of front tires only towed about 200 miles with around 13k pounds. I haven’t pulled the skid(20k lbs) in a while. I haven’t even hauled much weight in the bed other than maybe 50-100 miles of 2700 lbs.
The first two sets of tires were BF Goodrich AT tires. The last two sets have been Ironman AT. I do drive a lot of dirt roads, probably 30% of the miles.

I have to agree with the others, it is an alignment issue. Ya need to find a better mechanic.

Last time I took my '01 F250 in for alignment, the shop wouldn't do it without also replacing front end parts. BUT that was at nearly 200,000 miles so it was expected.

After doing quite a bit of googling, along with talking to 6 other 2015-2022 ram dally owners, I am not the only one going through this. It may be more of a Dodge issue. The others I have spoken to have aligned their’s as well, but have the same problem. Not all at the same shop. Mine was aligned at the dodge dealership and an independent shop. My next set of tires will be at a different independent shop and I will have them align it as well. This time I’ll get a warranty on the tires and hope for 15-20k with rotations at the oil changes.
