The software the school uses, Lexia, pretty much only works on Ipads and desktops. Which sort of ticked me off...

I know squat about ipad in general. I have a 5th gen air the kids use for their Lexia stuff but we need a second device. A quick Google search shows the 5th gen air costs 50% more (used market) than the iPad 10. Is the 10 just not flashy, but otherwise good for folks who don't do anything specialized on their tablets?

We watch shows, browse the internet, play match-3 games, and do Lexia reading on my 5th gen air... which it is excellent at!

For that kind of thing I don't think you need an Air. Save the money and get a plain ipad but maybe spring for more storage. 64GB is what I'm seeing for the base model and that might fill up fast.
