…what the state bird for Colorado is. I told her it is the Deep Throated Cock Gobbler.
She asked me what it looks like:

As a birder who admires our fine state bird, the Lark Bunting, Jarrod Polis is nothing like that. He is the wolf, a vicious predator willing to kill anything in his way. Watch what he does to his prey, the agriculturists, ranchers, wildlife professionals, hunters, rural residents who own livestock and pets. He will spend every last taxpayer dollar to make his bottom happy.

The Lark Bunting, eh?!

This surprises me. I expected it to be the Canada Jay, aka the Camp Robber. Given that a state bird is an officially state recognized critter, a fearless, thieving, ugly creature seems more appropriate for this state.

Just sayin'.

I thought it was the Rocky Mountain Humming bird. Ya don't know what ya don't know.

As far as a political bird, I'd say the red head bunting fudge packer swallow.

For a look at Polis's mindset, this editorial by The Denver Gazette is worth reading:

EDITORIAL: Jared Polis? rural disconnect (https://denvergazette.com/opinion/editorials/editorial-jared-polis-rural-disconnect/article_1d88a5fa-bd20-5e8e-a9b9-b3f82cf699e1.html)

I think that most folks in western Colorado want to see the wolf reintroduction stopped. Between December 2024 and March 2025, the state will release another 15 wolves on the western slope. Thanks, Governor Polis.

Unfortunately, those in Denver, Boulder and Ft. Collins want it to continue and (per their mentality), you folks in Western CO are simple rubes who can't see the big picture.

I say, if those bastards want wolves so bad, let's re-introduce them into THEIR neighborhoods, not in yours! Once their children, pets, etc. are put at risk they might change their minds.

Aside from the cost to ranchers, etc., so far, this liberal feel good program has cost CO taxpayers 4.8 million dollars with another 2.1 million allocated (but the costs are ballooning and the next 15 wolves to be re-introduced are likely to exceed the cost already spent.

An interesting short read. No surprises. I agree with the author of the article. A Polis presidency would be disastrous for rural America.

What is interesting to me, is that on the national news feed, at least that I see on the interwebs, doesn't mention Polis as a presidential candidate in '28. Lots of talk about Newsome, Harris, Whitmer, and even Clinton. I'm probably in a bubble but I haven't seen his name come up much.

How well known is Polis outside of Colorado?

Pretty well known and gaining traction. He was mentioned in most articles after Biden announced he wasn't going to run.

Newsome is the front runner. His term ends in 2026.

Harris will not run because she will be governor of California. There is no way she would win a primary so her consolation prize will be California.

Clinton won't run because she is too old and the party has moved on from her.

Look for Newsome, Pritzker, Shapiro, Buttigieg, Whitmer and maybe Warnock, along with Polis to be the contenders.

Polis has a lot going for him from a Democrat point of view. They are licking their wounds after allowing the far left too much control. They will rein in a bit and look for candidates that sound more centrist. They will also look for a more palatable and electable candidate after the last two being so unlikable.

Polis doesn't have many scandals to scare off voters. He has been a successful business owner, a Congressman and Governor. He is gay which checks a lot of leftist's boxes. He is a father which women seem to think is valuable. He is also more amiable than Newsome, who has a history of far left actions that may turn off the middle.

This is also why we probably won't have a Colorado AWB until 4 years from now, but we'll probably have a lot of close misses that the D party insiders covertly derail the train every time and let die at the last second.

Anything to keep something requiring a signature or a veto from hitting his desk.

After 4 years, Colorado is likely f***ed on an AWB unless SCOTUS has a ruling by then.

They will never AWB here because idiots in Arkansas shot some space aliens. We have too many Space Force bases to be in denial. If they want to pass laws, turn the schools into fortified facilities. Add some armed guards. Bring back public executions using a rope. If the trial is public why can't the execution be public? It is part of the judicial process!
