Busy looking for ammo discounted by 6.5 percent to offset new tax.
Busy installing locking safe for pistol in the truck.
Busy preparing for trips out of state to buy firearms that do not require 3 day waits and additional 6.5 percent tax.
Busy watching that funds collected by the state from firearms and ammo tax are properly spent and do not offset the budget already in place.
And, most of all, busy wishing all a prosperous, fun, and safe New Year, 2025.

I don't think the 6.5% tax starts until April 1st. Lucky us.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year. Went to a gathering within walking distance of my home. Got up close and personal with some Knob Creek 9 yr bourbon-smooth stuff, been mostly a vegetable today lol. Yeah this old guy is a lightweight now.

I plan on heading out to the South Site (AKA Turkey Track) range Friday if anyone is out there. Look for the black Ram 1500 with topper.
Honk twice so I know you?re a friendly.

On New Year's Eve, I got together with 15 other Grand Junction folks, mostly my bowling friends, to play Bunco and celebrate the new year. So many girls, so little time....

On New Year's Day, seven of us met at the BLM pistol and rifle ranges north of GJ to blast away at a variety of targets. Two of us are avid shooters with plenty of interesting gun gear. First out was the Savage Anschutz 1408 that I competed with as a kid in the '60's. When everyone else set targets at 25 feet, I set mine at 100 yards and promptly made the first 3 shot group in a one and a half inch circle touching the 1 inch bullseye. No one had seen such a thing before, and the shots were close to silent from the match 54 barrel. Hell, it even surprised me because through peep sights, I could barely see the blurry target at that range. My younger self could do this offhand.

Then Dave and I did a show and tell with the first commercially made semi autos. My Winchester model 1903 in .22 Winchester Automatic was manufactured in 1907, and was carried to school by my grandmother so she could shoot rabbits on the way home. Dave demonstrated his Remington 1906 in .35 Remington, which he let me shoot. Then I set up an M1 Garand Rifle in .30-06, a post-Korean War HRA that I bought from the Dept. of the Army for $97.50. We went through several clips but not everyone cared to shoot the beast. I love shooting the M1 rifles, but had no interest in shooting Dave's bolt action 300 Win Mag. Those are for bigger fellows than I am.

Several in the group had never shot an AR-15 before either, so I brought out a scoped Odin Works/Palmetto in .300 BLK using subsonics through the SilencerCo Omega 300. It was a fun time for all and a great way to start 2025.

Best wishes to all of you! Go shooting, be happy!

All good, it was a work day anyway. Maybe by '26 things will slow down, who knows.

How packed was it out there? I haven't been to it in a long time. Have seen some utter morons / sketchy types there in the distant past, but who hasn't at public.

I had never been there before. The pistol range is a relatively short length roofed pad and single long table, all in decent shape except for the leaky roof. We had the place to ourselves for two hours, and as we packed up to head to the rifle range, 3 vehicles came in. The rifle range was much longer with maybe two dozen shooting tables. There were 6 or 7 small groups, with everyone playing safe and courteous, allowing time to place and change targets. No yahoos, thankfully. Better and safer than the BLM area a half mile from my place on central orchard mesa, although I still shoot there. I would go to the 27 1/4 Rd. range again with our group if I didn't want to pay for a clean lane with range officers at Cameo.

All these areas would benefit from regular range cleanup days with a few hundred people removing target trash, etc. Daily visits by law enforcement might lessen the yahoo problems.

Well, so far 2025 has been shit.

3 migraines, one last night on the flight home, little sleep, overworked, travel delays, f*ked with on my work computer (zero notice Crowdstrike network lockout) so that's pooched my schedule, etc.

Bright side is still plan to stop working FT April 1 but I've done zero prep.

Sorry to hear that this year has been sh*tting all over you brother.

I was planning to retire mid-Feb of this year, but due to family issues beyond my control (that continued employment can help financially with) and un-determined cause medical issues, I felt it wiser to remain employed and drawing that income for a bit longer.
