View Full Version : My first day at Metro

I'm all for self expression, but there's just some stuff I saw today that has be baffled.
If you have to hold on to your pants when standing to stop them from falling down - epic failure.
If you have so much metal in your fricken face you can't make it through a metal detector - epic failure.
If you're jeans are so tight I don't have to imagine what your vagina looks like - epic failure. (But not repulsive [Tooth])
If you have a muffin top, don't wear a belly shirt. Wear a fucking sweater. This isn't failure, it's repulsive.
If you don't like hair cuts or washing your hair, shave your head. Once again, repulsive.
Well, that's it for day one. Can't wait to see what day two brings.[Beer]

haha, ive been up at metro for a while now, and some of the stuff you see is hilarious.
also, the homeless guy near the light rail station who sells the denver voice newspapers is a pretty nice guy to talk too if you ever get the chance.

Yeah, I've had an apprentice or two who were threatened with "job site suspenders", think duct tape, if they didn't pull their damn pants up..
Now if I ever had a young female apprentice with really tight jeans like you describe... Well, I think I'd be ok with that...[Tooth]
I got a kick out of the guys who would come to preach, then all the dumb kids that would stand there and argue with them. College is a pretty liberal environment. I went to UCD as well. I don't envy you having to go there every day, but I applaud you continuing education. Or are you teaching?

Just a student. They don't want what I have to teach some of them[Kick3]
I didn't know anyone's name until my third year and I started having classes with the same people over and over again. I would go to class, eat, then go sleep in the Garage (that quiet study room in the Tivoli). Later, after I started going out to the bars when I was like 22, I would go to class, walk to Crocs for lunch and a free drink (I knew everyone that worked there) then go back to class.
The hot dogs the guy at the light rail stations sells are awesome...might have to head up there soon for one :D

the best are the breakfast burritos up on 16th and champa. I used to ride the earlier bus just to take the walk up and get one every morning!!!![Beer]

Brooklyn's Bar across the street at the pepsi center (think its brooklyns) used to give student discounts with an id, like a dollar off drinks or something. The guys who work there are pretty cool.

I also go to metro. I transfered there last semester and yes the weirdos just keep getting weirder. I have the desire to punch several college kids in the face...I just can't wait until they have to find real jobs and be in the real world like the rest of us...then we will see just how much no one gives a crap about their opinions.
I sit in class during class discussion and think to myself, I have seen too much of this world and feel too old to listen to your pointless babble about nothing rather then learning from the liberal teacher...

sounds like every day at work for me... it's like a family reunion each day, yo bro, what's happening? you just get out? cool... <insert gang signs and clothing> ...
the entire family sitting in the hallways waiting for dad/son/brother/cousin to walk by in shakles so they can way and say hi...
I think it's funny how everyone tries to look independent and unique, yet they all look alike. Great first day writeup! Looking forward to day two!
So what are you studying anyway? Agriculture, medical, and farrier?

Well, day two had a few more observations:
Two toned hair colors have been done stylish for quite some time. Tones in the same spectrum of colors looks nice. Tones not even found in nature make you look like a freak.
I also watched a 20 year old female who weighted at a minimum 280 lbs kill a double pack of Reeces and a pound of licorice in the last hour of my Chemistry class today. I just sat there looking like this [Shock].
Along with the above, we devided into groups in Chemistry. There were two groups of nothing but females. Do they not understand that having 4 20 year old females in one group is a potentially volatile mixture? God, I can't wait for the cat fight. One of the groups had all the hot chicks in the class in it. I'm rooting for them to emotionally implode during class... Pass the popcorn, baby.
Kev, I'm 40. I have maybe 4 or 5 classmates out of 6 classes old enough to NOT have been sired by me. I fortunately look young enough I can fake it, but do find myself wondering what planet some of them (teachers and students) were raised on.
Stewart; Chemistry, Criminalistics concentration.
At this point, Algebra is the only class that has me scared. The rest are just regular work. I haven't done college level algebra since 1992, and some of it is like riding a bike. Some of it is just frying my mellon.
I changed majors to get out of a calculas class (look at that, can't even spell it!) and I ended up majoring in Economics, which is ALL math.
Anyway, people who wear articles of clothing with animal ears on them (hair bands or hoodies) are a major red flag, but I stopped seeing that after high school.
I also watched a 20 year old female who weighted at a minimum 280 lbs kill a double pack of Reeces and a pound of licorice in the last hour of my Chemistry class today. I just sat there looking like this [Shock]. Did you think you were watching a wild life show on PBS?
One of the groups had all the hot chicks in the class in it. I'm rooting for them to emotionally implode during class... Pass the popcorn, baby. 2 Words........... BODY OIL!!! I just keep picturing the scene from 'Old School'
Kev, I'm 40. Does this mean you will take the role of the old guy taking on 2 chicks? LOL
Stewart; Chemistry, Criminalistics concentration.Sweet. Sounds like it will at least be some interesting classes.
recruit them for the WTSHTF scenario.

Sounds like the Zoo with an academic theme and less of an emphasis on reality. I think I'd have to divide my time between looking like [Shock] and [ROFL1].
I have a feeling I'd get run out on a rail, as I'm fairly certain I'd speak my mind at every politically incorrect opportunity. Failing that, I'd be unable to stop myself from sharing my dry (some would say cynical) sense of humor. Sigh.
I'll be curious to see how you fare. Good luck! Sounds like you'll need it.

OK, two weeks down. Impressions:
Now that I'm not as freaked out about the classes, I've realized there are a LOT of smoking hot girls on campus.
I've also realized there are a LOT of completely F'ed up views of how the world is, mostly from the smoking hot girls...
I have at least two girls in my English class I want to sew up in gunny sacks with about 75 lbs of scrap metal and drown like unwanted kittens.
"Um, is it OK if I do my personal interest paper on gun control?", asks kitten one. My thought was, 'How are you going to stretch out "keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target" for 4 pages?' Oh ya, gun control... not gun rights... Then the thought of her in a gunny sack transpired.
Kitten two felt sorry for pedophiles because she "...got to talk to some once and what they went through that made them that way was just awful." I went straight to the gunny sack thought with her.
So, I've decided to dedicate as many as my research papers in educating these two completely disillusioned drowning liberals. At the very least, I'll piss them off and that will make me feel better[Coffee].

Sounds like a worthwhile hobby to me. Although, drowning dumb liberals in gunny sacks might fit right in with the average liberal view, since you've replaced the poor little kittens with the girls in question (preventing animal cruelty) AND maybe you could push the notion that you're just aborting them, after the fact. You'd just have to leave out the part about them being liberals... Think of it as a public service.

Well, over half way through my first semester now. It continues to be interesting from both an educational perspective and a social perspective. Some teachers are very difficult to learn from. Ironically, all the students know which ones they are. If you ask the Jr's and Sr's, you can quite literally avoid the bad teachers all together. So, I talk a lot to the students that are working in the various tutor rooms, and I've started a list of teachers to avoid.
Conversely, I have one of the teachers right now that everyone says to avoid and I'm sitting at 87% in the class. She is difficult to follow, but a lot of the students don't do themselves any favors either. It's ironic the students that don't do the work (stay ahead of the reading, do the exercises given in class, study) are the same that have problems. It's consistant across every one of my classes. I've helped a few that are struggling. The ones willing to listen and change are the ones that will survive. There are others just not ready. I would recommend everyone with kids getting close to college, really evaluate you kid before you invest in college for them. Some are better off struggling in the real world for a while before college.
Chemistry Lab is by far the most fun of all of the classes. My lab professor is very willing to let a few of us go beyond the book experiments and do experiments as long as they are beneficial. There are a couple of us that 'get it' and try additional experiments. It's basic stuff, but the fact he's willing to let us take the info further is pretty open minded. It's good times.
Those emo freaks that wear pants so tight it they can't pull them up if they wanted to. It looks like they borrowed their little sisters pants.
All those people sound like weird enough but I bet that is only the ones you seen at the bus stop.
I was going to continue my education at Metro but said no way since they don't have free parking. Forget that noise I'm not lazy but I don't like hunting for parking spots every day.

I can tell you as one of the students that struggled, I would get much more out of college now than I did when I went directly out of HS. Which is a shame on many levels.... considering I paid for my schooling and worked through high school and college and I still didn't do as much as I could have.

Almost all of the Army and AF ROTC kids are in the aerospace majors. I have an Army ROTC young lady in my crim justice class. She and I talk a lot about her future and how to best handle some of the situations she's going to run into. She's smart and she listens.
Don't take my previous posts all negative about the younger generation. There are quite a few that flat out work their asses off. The two I work with the most in my Algebra class both have full class schedules and both work over 25 hours a week. One works full time. We are all pulling A's. There are other examples of this in all of my classes. I really boils down to the individual and their current grasp on a quality work ethic.
Metro is currently looking at converting to a university and offering a bunch of Masters degrees. I don't know if it will happen or not, but it looks promising.

I love dumb or lazy people.. the more the better. They surely give me better chances to be 'more' successful - I saw that during school, and now at work. Don't get me wrong, I don't take advantages of dumb lazy people. But they tend to miss opportunities and easy advantages for themselves - and give others who deserve more, better chances. [Tooth]

The more I thought about this, the more I reflected on what the opportunity I wasted in not taking more classes when I was active duty. I had 104 credits through the CCAF when I retired, and I regret every class I should have took and didn't.

Whatever happened to "C's get degrees"?
At the ripe old age of 31 I went back to school. I went to UCD and after 80-90 credit hours was sitting on a 4.0 in civil engineering. Slacked off some at the end and graduated with a 3.6. With that nice shiny piece of paper in hand, I went on a job interview with General Electric for a construction manager position. When it was done I asked, "are you interested in my GPA?" He said, "You have a degree don't you? That's good enough for us".
I was devastated.
[Rant1][Rant1]
BTW, I got the job!
I have an AS in Computer science... 3.39 GPA

So, day one of the summer semester is today. I have one Chemistry class on campus and one on-line history class. I completed two assignments today for the online class. It's my first online class and the first time I've taken summer college classes.
Needless to say my shooting time has taken a HUGE blow between working part time at the Parker wal-mart and classes. I miss the feel of recoil and the comfort of financial stability. This better be worth it in the end. It's been years since I had a shooting dry-spell like this. It's disconcerning, and the nice weather being here is making the itch worse.

Back in college I was shooting every weekend and often during the week too.... Now I barely get out once a month....
Oh and to keep on theme... I have a BM and an MM and several credits towards a Ph.D.... but working in a field I'm not "schooled" in and living pay check to pay check.

The scenery at metro was always pretty amazing when I went there. Especially when the weather got warm...
I'm just starting school again after 10 years, so should be interesting...

That's what has me worried about starting school back up again in the fall... Most people my age (mid 20's- I'm 26) are liberals, and most of the girls are these Bush-hating, tree hugging, liberal airbags that open their mouth and immediately become a 10 with the brain of a 2.
I do have to pose a quick question though, since some of you might know... as a combat veteran and devout conservative 2A fanatic, will I survive at Metro? I begin in the Fall and I hate to say it, but I'm very opinionated and know quite about about the truth they don't publish on the news when it comes to our current war situation (IE: Iraq and WMDs). I don't wanna be "that guy" in class that people loathe whenever my hand goes up in a class debate- 'here we go again, warmonger boy is about to tell us that war is actually good and the end justifies the means.'

There are quite a few vets at metro. I run into them all the time. I'm also a vet, retired after 21 years in the AF tour in Desert Shield and two tours in Iraq. The campus is currently "no concealed carry" campus as it's under CU admin rules at this time. Hopefully that will change with CUs current legal appeal. I've ran into a few antis while there. I laugh, roll up my sleeve, tell them they're clueless and walk away. Only had one bad run in like in going on two years now. Only had one professor that got under my skin about the wars, and it was a political science class on native Americans. A gotta expect some road rash in a class like that from the get go. My current professor for A Chem lab and lecture was using shooing competition sayings in class yesterday, And is an avid shooter and reloader. I've had way more students want to go shooting than bitch that I'm a bambi killer.
It's college... You have to expect some level of ignorance and liberal thinking by it's very nature. You also have to expect lots of hot chicks scantly dressed in the hot summer days.

Don't I know it... It was only about 5 years ago I was in school at RRCC. The problem with most of those hot chicks though, many of them are dumb as rocks. honestly going to school around here, especially at a place like metro that isn't a massive research institution, you won't have the majority of people being super ridiculous liberals. most major research universities are loaded with them because they think theyre smart. being in colorado (outside of boulder) helps too. most people are either moderate or fairly conservative. youll run into some, after all its a college. but it won't be as bad as most other places in the country.
