I remember 13 years ago during the magazine ban testimonies this forum was on fire. We were flat pissed off and a bunch of forum members went to the rallies and Capitol .
Every body on this site was fired up, we chewed up most of the bandwidth.
I took 2 days of vacation leave to try and fight.
We drove around the Capitol laying on our horns (I actually burned mine up on my F150).
Today we saw an incredibly Draconian ban shoved down our throats and you really had to search here to find anything about it.
I remember standing on the steps of the Capitol with Islandermike at my side and I made the statement publicly- We won’t have to worry about our Rights being taken away, we will give them away because we did nothing?
Yeah I know there is a 9 page thread on folks bitching about it buuut-
Who here called their representatives on SB25-003?
Who here emailed their representative and the entirety of the Senate regarding SB25-003?
Evil & tyranny prevails when good men do nothing.
And here we are.
Look at you now.

I sent a shit load of emails that im sure fell on blind eyes and deaf ears. Unfortunately the sad truth and reality is the leftist have seized controll of this state and they will do as they please as we are witnessing right now. It really sucks but colorado is lost, lots of republican, conservatives, normal fed up people, have moved out to be replaced ten fold by liberal peices of shit.
I too have emailed and called. There is a thread in the politics section on this very subject.

I emailed and called both last week and yesterday...
Hopefully Polis's ambition to be on the national stage will cause him to not sign this into law. I'm sure that our house will pass it.
I was involved too...............
OP:
Ok......... so organize a rally.............
The where, who and why has been answered.................... when?

13 years ago stood on the street protesting and spent 2 days listening to the spouted bs.
it didnt take long to realize there was no reasoning with the low iq representatives that were regurgitating the Bloomberg line.
There probably isnt a single one on colfax that can author these unconstitutional draconian bills, they just "mysteriously " show up on their desks with an envelope of incentive.

I'll admit, because of how they acted 13 years ago; didn't even consider any of the testimony, and didn't listen, I don't waste my time any longer. I know it will fall on deaf ears.
I will just simply not comply.
Part of the problem is when they refused to listen to literally every sheriff in the state it became obvious that they won't listen to us. There are recalls in motion. We need to recall every one of them...even if we know they won't get voted out.
I think it is time to either vote with your feet, or, for those that cannot leave build your fortress, (2A Sanctuary County/City), appeal to the Federal government to get involved and let Polis and the other Soros/Bloomberg/Every-town/Hogg/backed Communists play Gay chicken with the Supreme Court, President Trump, and Elon Musk/DOGE.

Except they misidentified polis as a republican.
Edit, they fixed it.
I attended both the capitol building protests/hearings as well as the one in Boulder years ago. I sent emails, made phone calls, sent donations, etc.
Our dictators were so generous that they let us stand up and make speeches back then, and again this time as well.
If we're lucky, they'll let us make speeches next time too.

Three defections from voting along party lines.
Would more protests, phone calls and emails have swayed five more Democrats to voting no?
No way of telling but now we need to keep up the pressure on the House.
We lost, in the last election cycle, when so many of you voted "Yes" to more Government, "Yes" to more taxes, "Yes" to Democratic candidates.
It doesn't really matter now. These are simply the consequences of your decisions.
-John
Well, it's going to pass in the house no matter what. The only way out right now is to put direct pressure on Polis.
He had consistently signaled that he's not a fan of outright bans on firearms which this is hidden by vague language and the whole foid amendment.
In the end it's a ban of firearms along with a poll tax added on top. I think this needs to get out there and the pressure needs to be applied to him.

A lot of people are okay with a new tax as long as it doesn't affect them. Look at smoking.
Are there enough people that will care? And of that bunch, will there be enough willing to be vocal about it? Enough that Polis will feel any pressure?
I think no. He will get much more persuasive guidance from the Democratic Party than he will from a few thousand people that didn't vote for him anyway. He is a lame duck so voter's political pressure means nothing to him.
There is no way he will veto it. He will either pass it since it is now an "education" bill that will save the children, or he will ignore it and it will pass itself.
So we need to pressure the members of the House for now. When it passes, and it will pass 43-22, we need to find out who is going to fight it in court and donate to those organizations.

Here is how the Post is covering it.
https://www.denverpost.com/2025/02/18/colorado-gun-control-bill-semiautomatic-firearms-labor-unions-dues-senate/
As initially written, the measure would've banned the sale of many semiautomatic weapons that accept detachable magazines. But after days of negotiations with Polis, the bill's sponsors - Democratic Sens. Tom Sullivan and Julie Gonzales - agreed to a change that still would allow the guns to still be sold, so long as any buyer first takes a training course and passes a background check.
Sullivan's son, Alex, was killed in the 2012 Aurora theater shooting. Before the vote, Sullivan, a Centennial Democrat, said he wished he had been in the theater that night instead of his son, and that his son stood in his place now.
"Because forever he will be better than me. I know that he would've had the ability to try to get through to people what this all means," Sullivan said. "I'm not a threat to the 2nd Amendment. It's the 45,000 Americans who are dying by gun violence each and every year."
See? It's an education bill. It's for the children.
Who can be a decent person and oppose that?

I think it is quite safe to say there are quite a few Coloradans that have the exact same sentiment you miserable fat assed, lying, smarmy motherfucking prick.

Oh and members here- help me out on this one- "passes a background check". Don't we already do that via NICS/CBI?

Yes, but that is for purchasing a weapon of war. This new background check is to see if you are allowed to get a permit to take a safety class that "must include information on firearm deaths associated with mental illness, Colorado’s red flag law, and victim awareness and empathy."
What part of IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN don't you understand???

So, does a concealed carry permit allow you to skip some of the bullshit? I mean, the sheriff's dept has already done the checks and signed off on that. Are the classes you have to take a state run class, or do the classes they have at many ranges count? Will your USPSA membership prove you have taken their class to become a participant and count as "education". What about all the hours of training some of us have taken? So many questions on such a horribly written and not though out piece of shit bill. If signed by the head fruitcake, I sure as fuck hope this instantly gets tied up in courts.

Your existing training is NOT the special "Guns-R-Bad" training they want you to receive. The plan is for potential naughty gun owners to see the hoplophobic light and decide NOT to complete their planned purchases.
All we can do is "Vote" with our wallets. A mass exodus from the state from residents that are fed up with this BS is the only option left. The funny part about that is if a mass exodus happens State Officials will be too stupid to make the correlation to their poor agendas being forced on the people.
I also find it funny that people still think that voicing your opinions on proposed laws will make any difference. The Political Agenda and Goals are predefined regardless of what the "People" think or want.

There will be plenty leftists to fill the void
They steadfastly refuse to allow actual firearm experts to have a voice during the drafting process or even testify about the various errors and unintended consequences.
The new course required to get a CCW seems to take several days and cost a thousand dollars to attend, and the curriculum is mostly bullshit.
But when G Money out on da streetz goin BRAAAAAP wit dat Glock switch, DA dismisses the charge. I'm familiar with a half dozen cases where the defendant had charges for an unregistered machinegun dismissed... when ATF is raiding people for selling binary triggers, Super Safeties, and keyrings with an outline of a Lightning Link.
We've been watching, emailing and calling but I think the change that was "negotiated" with Polis is the nail in the coffin, and we're fucked.

This state is definitely circling the drain, politically. Outside of that, I do love CO and family is all here. Not likely we move . . . but never say never I guess.
In the meantime, I'll just have to stay & fight. And buy a crapload of stuff before the latest asshattery goes into effect. All I can hope is that it makes a rapid trip to SCOTUS and gets canned.

The problem with the link/document it links to is that it stresses governance is at the consent of "we the people" and all legislation passed must fall within consent of the people.
This is a problem because the legislators within this state are predominantly left/blue. They were voted into office by the left/blue who now outnumber the right/red. This directly implies they (the legislators) have the consent of the majority of the people. And while this document references the state Constitution many times, it effectively says that only laws which are not repugnant to the people are valid. If the majority of the people agree with the law, under democratic law, it is valid.
We've allowed the language to affix in peoples minds that we are a democracy and forget that we are a Constitutional Republic where the individual, not the majority, is protected against malicious legislation. While we (the right/red) had control of the legislature we failed to put into the state Constitution protections against such legislation. We should have, with unambiguous language, solidified our 2A right within the state Constitution so as to prevent this sort of thing from happening. We failed to do so. What this means is that we're open for this sort of legislation and can only expect it to go to a long, drawn out legal battle in the courts. And, yes, this may very well be overturned by the courts, eventually; but it won't happen overnight.
With the turn of the state from red to blue, we have little hope of replacing our state elected officials with those who respect our freedoms. I don't anticipate this will change in less than 20-30 years, if ever. This means those in power within the state will feel free to legislate with impunity by feelings vice by adherence to the rights of the citizens.
ETA: Please don't misconstrue my post to mean that I think it's a waste of time to fight against this sort of tyranny. I strongly encourage everyone to get out there and legally fight against measures like this and make your voices heard as loudly as possible.

While i understand BP's anger and rightly so.
However the writing was on the wall last century when colorado gun owners and voters, in general passed the Gun Show Background Check law.
I cannot tell you how many gun owners i spoke with regarding this "vote" and why it was bad.
The average response was Oh i didn't realize they were going to make it so you needed a BGC at gun shows.
Did you read the voters guise pamphlet? Umm no. well there you go. Once again ignorance and complacency fuked gun owners over.

Or the dang excise tax that creates another .gov agency that was passed this go around. I?ve met way to many gun owners that had no understanding of what was voted on. The conservative groups do well educating those that are involved but do very poorly reaching out to those that are less than interested until it?s too late.
