View Full Version : Recommendation of a shop to do consignment?

With the very real possibility of the ban, I have a few high end rifles I'd like to sell. A quick search of GB puts 4 of them in the $3-6k range maybe higher on two but I didn't have time to dig.

I'd like a shop that's good to work with and fair on fees (maybe one that's willing to negotiate). If I consigned everything at the same place it would probably total $25k plus.

I haven't shot any of these in over a decade so there's no good reason for me to keep them.

I'd prefer South Denver through Colorado Springs but if there's a great shop, I'm willing to drive.

I believe ............but could be wrong.......... most all charge 20% FYI.
I've worked with 2 over the years:
Green Mtn Guns, they also offer to sell on GB for you.......... but they have, TBH, gone down hill over the years.
The Gun Room.......... seem better but they are in no rush to get the check to you.

With higher end guns, I'd seriously consider Gunbroker and ship through an FFL. You'll get a lot more eyes on them, a good chance of a higher sale price, and less fees owed. I've also been weighing the options. Who knows how the additional 6.5% Colorado tax on April 1 will get taken from you, but I'm sure it will your guns are consigned in Colorado.

I thought about Gunbroker myself but my reviews are only for purchases and very old. I'd be hesitant to buy a $5000 rifle from someone with 6 reviews that are 10 year old.

Try "The Gun Room" on Carr in Lakewood. They specialize in high end rifles and do a lot of consignment.

Thanks, I'd forgotten about them. I consigned a Superposed there about 15 years ago.

Is anyone familiar with Springs Armory as a shop? They seem to have a reasonable policy.

I believe they charge 20% for in-store consignment and 25% if they sell on GunBroker.

I have always had good luck with them. I have never done consignment there though. You could also check out SDS guns in the springs they do a lot of consignments.

SDS and Springs Armory have both been great for consignments.

Forget that consignment nonsense --sell them outright to Cabela's in Lone Tree. If the rifles are worth what you think they are, they'll pay it. Plus, you get paid right then and there.

Don't they just pay about 50% of the expected value?

70% of what they think they can sell it for.....so yes, probably around 50% of what one might be able to get via private party.

I thinned the herd with Springs Armory consignment during the covid fiasco, they were easy to work with. Even without the three-day and UBC it saved all kinds of hassle with work hours and meeting up with people.

They are closer to me than SDS but I have not heard anything bad about that shop.

I did some more digging.

Springs Armory - Flat $45 for the first $600 and 10% of everything above, but they don't sell online. If I had some standard firearms to sell this seems like it would be the closest to listing yourself on the Trading Post.

SDS - 20% and they list on several online sites including GunBroker. The 20% is the same if it sells in shop or online. I'm going to meet up with them next week since I think out of state is the best chance for higher $$$.

That should be everyone’s first step, IMO.

Remember. Most semi autos are going away.

What they don’t manage to ban this year, well the DEMS have next year.

This is just a start to see what they can get away with.

I'm going to be posting a few firearms but for the two main ones I have about 20 OEM mags for each that sell for $100-150 each and I cant post those here. I'm also struggling to find recent sales to help with pricing.

"Mag kits" seem to bypass CO restrictions.

Not to derail my own thread, but I just read up on the 3 day waiting period... Things have been crazy at home and work and I just haven't been paying much attention for the last couple of years (I know I should have been).

What a bunch of bullshit across the board. I just read all 17 pages of that thread.
