If this bill passes, those who find themselves in dangerous situations might face prosecution if they use deadly force to stop a threat. As is typical for anti-gun laws, this bill would protect criminals more than the people they victimize.

Assembly Bill 1333 seeks to amend Section 197 of the California Penal Code, which outlines when one can commit homicide in self-defense. It would narrow the circumstances under which one can use deadly force to defend one's life or property.

The bill would eliminate the legal justification for homicide when one uses deadly force to protect their homes or property.

"Homicide is not justifiable when committed by a person... When the person was outside of their residence and knew that using force likely to cause death or great bodily injury could have been avoided with complete safety by retreating," the bill reads.

"White supremacists and other extremists have hidden behind self-defense laws to fire a gun and turn any conflict into a death sentence."

Another bill written by Everytown and coming to Colorado. They will try it in California first to gauge reactions. Then modify it to make it more palatable and run it in every state they can.

Of course they will. Another step on the path.

Communistic socialists are dedicated and committed to erasing individual liberty and free will. They will never stop.

Heck didn't Colo. just shoot down a bill that would've brought stiffer penalty to thieves? That's right in-line with how they think..

A fundamental problem with every legislature.... there's no limit to the amount of times you can introduce the same issue. It can fail to pass 89 times, and finally pass on the 90th, where it becomes permanent.

I agree, inevitably, they will try the same thing here. It will likely fail many times, and then, inevitably, succeed. Absent clear direction from SCOTUS, its eventually death by a thousand cuts, and they succeed primarily by making gun ownership too difficult and expensive, so that future generations have fewer, and fewer participating members.

Best defense to rights is making sure the young'uns have exposure and resources to participate. Even then, we have the weight of Boulder, Denver, Pueblo politics, someday California will likely be getting progressive ideas from Colorado.

If they can’t outlaw guns, they’ll outlaw your ability to carry them, and when they lose on that, they will pass these laws to make use of the guns prohibitive. And if those laws gets struck down, the DAs will just charge people anyways.

It was dark. It looked like they had a gun. So I used equal force and used my gun. I warned it first and it approached with what I thought was a gun in it's hand...
