I sometimes see people refer to keeping a gun in their tackle box for snakes or something. Isn't this a concealed firearm?

I would think so. My son asked the sheriff of some county if he could open carry in the forest. The sheriff stated that the firearm must be very visible and never covered by a shirt or jacket or in a back pack or it would be considered concealed.

So I would consider a gun carried anywhere that it can not be seen as concealed. Vehicles excepted as they are an extension of your home.

My 2 cents worth...

The thing I was thinking of is that you are allowed to carry a gun in it's case like when you go from your car to range, but I don't remember if that is because you are traveling, on range property, not going to be hassled because what else are you supposed to do?, etc.

Fishing, isn't exactly "traveling" though you know? If you are in a boat though, then I'd think that falls under the "private vehicle" deal. Except getting bitten by a snake is about the last thing I'm worried about when I'm on a boat. :p

You can carry concealed while hunting but I have never heard about fishing. :D

I carry concealed in the woods all the time and don't even worry about it because concealed is concealed and don't expect to even be asked about it.

I would like to interpret concealed carry as:
1: not visible
2: on your person

How would anyone transport a firearm anywere without freaking out neighbors. Or what about if you have a box of stripped lowers and you carry it from someplace into your car. You have now commited a felony?

I can't imagine discharging a .357 to kill a snake in the bottom of my boat!

My little bro, fishing from a boat, had a water moccasin drop into the boat...
He left the snake all alone in the boat...

I think this is a great question. It had never even occurred to me that this might be considered "concealed".

I suspect as stated previously, to qualify as concealed, it has to be on your person.

I really don't know though.

If it only had to be on your person, couldn't everyone just carry in a brief case or a baby bag then? If I'm at Taste of Colorado and someone finds out that I have my gun in the bag in my stroller, I'm going to be in deep shit without a permit.

You're probably right, I just want it to be the other way.

I'd be too afraid that there would be even more around my boat in the water to jump out.

Now, if a woman has a firearm in her purse that she is carrying around with her, it is considered "concealed" and she must have a CCW permit. I would have to interpret that a firearm in a tackle box would be "concealed" as well.

Does it matter if it is loaded or unloaded? More a technical point, don't want to load a gun while a snake figures out to strike or not.

I heard that down south after a flood and the water level goes down, water moccisians are all over in the trees.

Still can't believe that you can't shoot gators on sight.

Concealed carry: a loaded gun accessible to the person and not visible to a second party.

An unloaded pistol in a gun bag in the back seat, doesn't meet the criteria. Leave it loaded and it does.

A loaded pistol in a closed tackle box within arms reach in the bottom of the boat meets the criteria.

I may not have the wording perfect, but it's real close for CO. Where's Bailey? He would know the CO statue/code/whatever they call it here, for this.

I just wondered because I see people throw the term "tackle box" gun around occasionally, with no mention that just because you bought some cheap gun to toss into your tackle box, doesn't mean that you don't also have to jump through the hoops to be able to toot it around like that.

I used to fly fish a lot. I carried pretty regular when fishing. I have a POS Taurus 45LC snubbie I throw in my fanny pack with a couple of speed loaders for it. I have a waist tackle pack with a section on the inside that's all velcro to attack various fly boards to. I just used half of it to attach a 5.11 holster built to velcro into a vest.

I bought a few of those stretch one size fits most (fullsize) holsters to sew into your clothes. I sewed them into brief cases and stuff, similar concept. Your picture reminded me of that.

I THINK THAT YOU WOULD BE FINE TO :PACK: IN YOUR FISHING BOX. tHE GUN IS NOT ON YOUR BODY,HOWEVER YOU DO NEED TO CONTROLE YOUR FISHING BOX AT ALL TIMES. IF YOU LEAVE YOUR TACKLE AND WONDER AROUND THE NEXT POINT. IF SOME NOSEY DECIDES TO PLAY IN YOUR BOX,,,YOU COULD BE LIABLE FOR HIS ACTIONS.
