A question for non-urban and non-suburban forum members...
My 19 year old son and I are working in garage and in the immediately of our house on this glorious spring day at our family's foothills compound west of Boulder. For convenience and maneuverability, I have a .357 snub in my pocket loaded with Federal AE 158 gr JSPs and also a speed-strip of the same. Nothing on my immediate threat matrix makes me want anything else at the moment- all other sidearms and long-guns are inside the house.
What's a typical "at home" loadout for you folks in similar locations where hood rats and vagrants aren't on the typical daily local threat matrix?

24/7 lcp max, or some type of pocket pistol in my pocket. I have never carried a reload even when I worked in the gettos of LA and Long Beach.
I suspect most folks just have a standard EDC setup that might vary from time to time based on where they’re going. For me, an HK VP9 (15+1) with a full spare mag in the same holster is pretty much always my EDC.

S/A Echelon 4.0, holosun eps, 15 rd mags with an 18 rd for a spare. Loaded with federal 124 hst's. in an AIWB kydex.
I've seen up close and personal what they do to flesh & bone.

You carry that when working in your rural front yard?

Typically LCR 9MM(2 shot shells & 3 HST) working around yard/house/barn. Working out away from buildings, building fence, mowing field etc I put a long gun(usually 12ga with alt buck/slug) in scabbard on 4 wheeler or tractor.
More concerned with 4 legged critters and snakes than 2 legged. Never had a badger recognize my right or need to build a fence thru his yard/house and they always want to fight about it.

More concerned with 4 legged critters... than 2 legged.
Yup- That's our primary scenario up here too, just with cats and bears. Not that the two legged threat is zero, it's just not the same as down in the more populated areas. We don't get much "public" access on or immediately near our property.

Normal EDC for either my wife and I is a S&W air weight J frame with 115 gr JHP with speed strip. If we are traveling out of town I will carry a G19 with two extra magazines and loaded with 115 gr JHP. We willfully avoid areas that may be shady. We fuel at busy well illuminated stations and eat at mainstream restaurants. We plan ahead.
Realistically, most guys I know have big guns off body and pocket carry something to get to those.

Yes it's my daily carry. Why not enough gun for your needs.?
TBH i don't do "yard work" or any kind of outdoor maintenance on our property, that's the wife's job. I handle vehicle / lawn equipment upkeep, the cooking, procuring things as needed and all around nice guy. She handles the rest, been the same agreement the last 51 years.
From the time i get ready to go out the door, till i'm done at the end of my day, the echelon and spare mag[s] are the edc, along with a spring assisted knife, small led flashlight and IFAK. Which is considered middle of the road for this area. If i'm in a hurry the 43x with 2-15 rd mags (124 HST) might be that days go to gun.
Unless it's to the VA, then it's a knife or 2. They take firearms on fed property violations very serious down here, get caught with a gun on the grounds it's adios muchaco. AND.. you cannot refuse a vehicle search, either.

I keep a Judge loaded with .410 shells on the tractor when I'm mowing...which is a LOT in the spring and summer. When I'm doing other property maintenance stuff I'm usually in the Mule. I have a rifle rack on the Mule and keep either a shotgun or a rifle...usually the .410 or a Kel-Tec SU-16. When we're out and about in town, wife carries a Bodyguard 2.0 with a spare mag. I usually carry a 43X with a spare mag (Shield 15 rounders) in the winter. In summer my every day attire is usually shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops...and I keep a Kel-Tec P3AT with a reload in a pocket. I try to keep a rifle in the truck if I know we won't be leaving it unattended for any length of time. But I don't have a way to secure it yet so that's not very often. I need to take care of that.
Honestly, where we live, the threat level is pretty low. Really low. My biggest worry around our property is a stray dog or rattlesnake.
When I lived in Arizona in a remote part of Pima County my dad always had a S&W .357 revolver on him with a Winchester 30-30 lever gun handy. When I got old enough I carried a 1911.45 with 2 spare mags and the old Speer ?flying ashtray? 200gr jhp. I still do today most of the time regardless of where I am though with modern 230gr Federal HST.

I like these cheap pistols. Some guys manage to find a 357 Sig barrel and quick change to that caliber on the .40 model

G19 w/ X300U OWB. If I'm going into town I put a cover shirt on.
When working in the yard I keep a small can of pepper gel on me for 4 or 2 legged that haven't risen to the level of deadly force. I do the gel since it's pretty windy here all the time.
I also will keep on me, or near me, a G48MOS w/ a RDS.
I always wonder how you remote people react to when the wind blows, and the trees tremble, on a dark night.
Sure, you are remote, but that just makes the suspense greater, that you might have an encounter.
We, in the city, are used to encounters.

... and when my daughter and I got home tonight, we had a mountain lion in the driveway. I had my son grab the 870 loaded with 000 to provide overwatch as we got inside. I had my .38 in one hand, vehicle based Maglite in the other. Fun times...

Those are the sounds you like to hear. I don't react to night time sounds at all because they're peaceful. Besides...I have 6 Corgis. If a flea farts a half mile away, I know about it. If you have dogs you know there's a difference in the way they bark at "stuff" in general, and when they're really barking at "something". The question then is what is the "something". Also a difference in how many are barking. If it's just one, 99% chance it's nothing to worry about. If all 6 are going ape-s**t it's time to investigate. I also have cameras all around the house. Very helpful...
Nice. I think I understand now.
