Testing out of the Hunter Safety Class

I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm 58 and don't have a hunter's safety card. Lame, I know.

I have a chance to hunt a huge private ranch this year and am virtually guaranteed a cow elk. So, it's time to get my card.

I see Colorado has an option to test out of the class if you're north of 50 years old. Does anyone knows a reliable source of a sample test so I can get a feel for the questions? I get one shot to pass. If I don't, I have to take the class. I've found a few sites that purport to have practice tests, but the questions vary from site to site so much that I don't have a lot of confidence in any of them.

Hunters safety card is pretty easy, just don't be an idiot. They are going to ask you things like the different types of firearms, hunting ethics questions, and safe handling of firearms. Anyone with half a brain could probably pass the test without the class.

If there is an option to just take the test (have never heard of that) them just do it. If you fail then just take the online class.

BTW, is the ranch in an OTC unit? If not you would have to apply for a tag and that time frame has passed for this year.

It’s very simple to be honest. My youngest just finished his at 9 years old and my oldest got his when he was 8.

Know the regulations, read through all the rules, lots of gun safety, a little bit about different types of land, what creates good habitat, animal identification mostly what’s a moose vs an elk or a whitetail deer vs mule deer.
Then plenty of just common sense stuff.
Both my kids got 100% on their tests so don’t screw it up! [Beer]

As I recall when I, and years later my son, took the class we had to write the list of gun safety rules from memory, which I know you know by heart.

The Hunter Education program emphasizes four primary firearm safety rules: always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot, treat every firearm as if it were loaded, and always be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
