Has anyone been shooting a suppressor, SBR, SBS, or AOW in Coloraso and been asked by a range employee or LE for proof of their stamp? Or stamp, ID, and trust docs?
I know stamp holders are only required to show certain people who ask, by law, but I suppose a private range could ask to see it in order to allow it. I dunno.99026

Not an answer really, but the only question I've seen LE ask people with NFA items is "How long did it take to get that?" or "Where did you go for that?"
It occurred to me as I wrote this that the people we meet at the range are assumed to be decent folks who follow the laws.
From what I've heard, that rarely happens unless someone violates the "no rapid fire" rule by going full auto, and you actually kinda need a tax stamp for full auto, lol.

The only time I had to provide a stamp for inspection was about a decade ago at the firing line in aurora. Their reasoning was “ atf could do a surprise inspection and the business would be fucked if you were shooting nfa without a stamp” As if the business would somehow be liable for your fuckup if that was the case.
In their defense, it was just a look at, no copies made. I would not allow copies to be made of my paperwork. If a business demanded to makeacopy then my dollar goes elsewhere. Your business equal your rules but that does not mean I have to frequent it.
They quit asking for nfa paperwork to use the range around 2020 iirc.
My nfa lawyer told me that the only ppl who can demand nfa paperwork were ATF agents and , surprisingly , IRS agents as it is a document with a tax stamp, lol. Local cops demanding to see paperwork can be told to go pound sand. Your decision to make if you want to climb that hill.
Just take a photo of it and keep it on your phone if you are worried about it.

What about if a person is a SOT?
No, never. And I shoot a quite a few indoor ranges.

Never given a second look for either a suppressor or sbr
There’s a private range / club east of Denver where the owner was a stickler for checking the documentation and matching the SN. Said due to ATF checking them, blah blah blah. I had a two stamp gun and the suppressor was dedicated to it and pretty much carbon locked under the handguard; always a hassle.
He was a mouth breather and I didn’t renew my membership.
Never been asked elsewhere.

I keep paper copies in the truck and digital ones in my files folder on my phone.
Ain’t no agents out in the woods!
Silencer Shop makes this toooo easy.
First can in 18 days, the second can in 28 days, one SBR in 3 days and now I submitted another form 1 yesterday and I just certified and hour ago.
Ain?t nobody except atf or irs ever gonna see a stamp. Never been asked even when I had the MP5SD lol.
No but I feel like the kid who just turned 21 and gets all giddy thinking someone might ask to see their ID.... except it never happens. I have have all of them saved digital in my Google Drive account for quick access at any and all times. Being as I've got over $5k in tax stamps I'd love the opportunity to show them off. Never happened, likely never will. Then again, I avoid indoor ranges like the plague itself anymore so I can't think of many instances where I'd get the opportunity unless it's en route to the middle of nowhere.

As it is a “Tax Document” the only ones that can mandate you produce it are the IRS and/or ATF.
But you really want to get into a pissing match with Johnny Yokel Sheriff?

Is anyone confident that they would even know what they were looking at if you showed them the documents? Let alone know to ask for them or if they even knew about NFA items. Is that covered in their “Extensive’” training?
You can buy pre-owned NFA tax stamps on eBay. Most people wouldn't know the difference.

I shoot regularly at Liberty Arms in Johnstown and always have at least one can with me. No one has ever asked me to show paperwork.

One time. I was a kid at the time. We were up at Rampart Range shooting a full auto and a fella wanted to see the paperwork. This guy was some sort of city or county law enforcement in another state, way out of his jurisdiction and had no authority to demand anything. Dad said he was just showing off to his buddies. He also told me the guy had never seen a stamp before and didn't know what he was looking at.
It wasn't worth embarrassing the guy by refusing, or the potential time-sink that may have caused. I remember my dad talking to him a little, showing him the paperwork and walking him through how to read it. At the end dad pointed out that the guy never verified the person on the stamp was the same person he was talking to.
No one of legitimate authority has ever requested to see my paperwork. I, personally, have shown people my paperwork because they were simply curious what the form looks like. Which then leads into a quick discussion of the process and costs involved.

You are correct, I believe that any local LE or for that matter people working at a range would have NO idea what they are looking at.

Ok Good to know.
It isn't worth the argument, so I would've probably just went along too.......... but did you have an idea what he'd do if you refused or if it didn't match?

Yup- he actually wanted a photo copy of the stamps for the items I had on hand.
Nope, sorry.
Good bye.
Haven?t been back since.
I hope you laughed at the guy on your way out. That’s bs to even be asked to make a copy!
This was back in 2021-ish time frame. Don’t know what he would have done if I refused to show him or if it didn’t match. Once, the can didn’t want to come off and took quite a bit of urging, but it finally did. Anyway, his place, his dumb rules, he didn’t get a renewal. But overall, the place didn’t fit what I was looking for anyway
Gotcha. Reminds me of the idiots that ran what is now Blue Core but after buying K2. Family something or other? The owner bragged that atf had a live link to their cameras of the ranges. WTF?? Never went back. He also carried a 1911 hammer down with a strap over the hammer lol.

WOW, ok.
Alright. Dont blame you at all.
TBH, If I really wanted/needed? to shoot somewhere, I'd probably play along and SHOW them the paperwork.
And well, never go back.
But photocopies............... Bold very bold ...... But NO, hard pass as they say.
Lead Valley - is that the place near some kind of race track? On hwy 36?

Yes, from Byers, go out 36. IIRC.

Thought so, I used to take care of four telecom sites on 36, so I traveled that road a lot.

I had the range officer at a county range in AZ ask me if I had a copy of my stamp one time. Not really sure what he was getting at....I politely answered yes and he went on his way. Pretty sure he would have let me know it's a good idea to have it with me anytime I have the suppressor out in the wild.
