For those of you that don't know, gun dealers in Colorado are now required to keep a "Dealer Transaction Log" for all handgun purchases. Form DR7602 will be kept for CBI review for 3 years. One odd part of the form is you now must provide your Occupation for inclusion.
Here's what it looks like if you're interested: https://sbg.colorado.gov/sites/sbg/files/documents/DR7602_Transaction_Log_5.19.2025.pdf

Looks like the form was created and used by DOR'S Firearms Dealer Division rather than CBI.
Rental? Exchange? Huh?

I put mechanic, I probably should have specified auto mechanic.
If I was a pharmacist I would have put drug pusher.

One day the state will publish a guide for the dealers and customers that have to fill that form out.
Originally they wanted all the extra info entered into the FFL dealers bound book.
But, those are federal records and so Colorado State people could be denied access to them.
Right now the ATF isn't about cracking down on dealers and gun owners...

Is undocumented pharmacists a valid profession?
We know that being undocumented is not illegal. It’s just a paper issue.
And let me guess, lying on that form is some kind of punishable offense?
I'll give the same occupation I give whenever the bank thinks they need to know too:
Trophy Husband
They're just as annoyed that they need to ask as I am in being asked so they generally giggle and type it right in w/o question.
I'm sure the drug dealers... err, I mean... gun dealers... will react much in the same way. Can't wait.

Filled one out this morning, I put retired-which I am-almost added “no job, not much money, lots of free time” but figure I probably shouldn’t.
Oooo, i think next time I’ll put “leisure time observational behavior specialist”! Let’s see if that floats the dept of revenue’s boat lol

That is a bullshit form- the government doesn't work like that. They don't use anonymous google docs pages for official documents.

Yeah, they do. DOR has been using them for awhile. Mostly for access by other government agencies.

@Kid13............
WOW ok, thanks.
And there is only one reason they'd be doing that and they WILL collect the data.
"Oh we'd love to renew your permit but you have "numerous" complaints (actually one anti-gun troll) ...........so NO."
If we (as in gun owners in CO) had some power here I'd say #### with the system and file all sorts of "complaints" as in "that dealer made me pay 6.5% extra, claiming some sort of tax" etc........... but it'd back fire.

I am wrong.
I didn't know that they had such poor IT that they would have amateurish crap like that as an official document.
All their other docs are PDFs with official letterheads.
Maybe we can flood their system with "complaints"
Just start..

It will be interesting to see what happens when I pick up my WWII era Liberator next week.
And how the hell is random gun shop employee going to know the difference between Cerakote or shake 'n bake or IonBond or electroless nickel or Robar3 or any of the other hundreds of coatings that's been used over the years?

I watched a guy at a local gun counter refuse to answer the occupation question. The associate was going to shut down the sale. I understand that you must answer the question. The guy finally answered with "airline". So, if this guy did work for an airline does he remember TSA, if you refused to answer a TSA agent, you probably would get a cavity search.

Yes, iron horse was using it the other day.
My question is, since it?s not technically the 4473 back ground check what happens if you lie?

Does this question get asked before of after the background check?

You have violated Colorado, Gulag of Firearms law and can be prosecuted for it.

Yes, lying on any official form is a violation of law (giving a false statement) and can be prosecuted. Now, being intentionally vague or making an otherwise truthful statement "from a certain point of view", well that's a horse of a different color.
Most stores have you fill it out at time sale/nics submission. I put “recreational observation specialist” the first time I filled it out. Guy at the counter asked what the hell that meant. I said I’m retired lol. I’ve put “retired” on all since. The form stays with the dealer, doesn’t go anywhere but is available if an inspection is warranted.

What if you're a professional freeloader?
What if you just put "breather"? Breathing occupies a lot of my time.

I believe you can refuse to answer the occupation question, and that can be noted.
It is against the new law to lie on the form.
Having been thru 2 FDD inspections already, I would not play around with this.
They check all the paperwork they have the authority to view.
