Team COAR,
If you read the Legislation and Politics section very much you've likely seen that I am supporting Victor Marx campaign to become our next governor.
Yesterday I had someone on a Victor Marx Facebook page encourage me, and others, to step up and run for federal and state public office.
Realizing that a Republican governor can't affect much change with a Democratically controlled legislature, I reached out to the CO GOP as a potential candidate for office. We can't expect or effect change if we don't get involved.
Today I was contacted by the CO GOP Chairperson and we had a lengthy conversation. She and I both seemed pleased with what we heard from the other. I'll be attending an event on Monday evening where I'll be getting introduced to Colorado GOP public officials and influencers and see if there is a position for me at the state level, if not maybe at the El Paso County level, that they'd like me in and that I feel would be a good fit for me.
I'll keep all of you informed as more information develops but I ask, should I have a campaign that applies for your voting area, that you strongly consider giving me your vote.
There is nothing solid yet, but I wanted to plant the seed to get everyone starting to think about this next election and what it could mean for our rights (just 298 days until the next CO General Election)
Best of luck, sir! Keep us posted!

I would vote for you, unless you have some some COAR skeletons in your closet.

Glad to see you taking the leap. Remember all of us when you get all that governor lobby money [Beer]
Do you get the "born to lose" tramp-stamp tattoo discount from the GOP before or after becoming an official candidate [Sarcasm2]

Good for you. It is good to see you standing up and wading into the fight rather than running away.
I have been involved in local politics, although at very low levels, for about a decade. If you need any help, let me know.

This time, I recognize your sarcasm. The rampant corruption and graft is part of what has driven me to this decision. I'm not interested in money (the salary for CO legislators is only $47,561 annually so someone needs to explain to me how all of these people continue to get rich while in office - without corruption and graft). Nor is it to gain "power", at least not beyond having the power to start effecting positive change in this state and getting Colorado back to the state we once loved.

Well, I'm not an official candidate for anything yet. We'll see what's available and what offices I can run for office in.

Oh, THANK YOU! I'm definitely going to take you up on that if something comes of this!!!

Shit brother - I'd buy you lunch any time, "just because"!
If something comes of this (I'll know more tonight), and if I need a security team, ever, I'll definitely reach out. Not many people make me stop and consider my choices before taking action against someone but, given different circumstances, you'd be one I'd look at and decide not to tangle with.

Thanks! We need more people to run who represent a solid 2A background without the extra stupid that frequently accompanies the Colorado GOP product.

I promised to keep you updated when there was something to update. Okay, there's really nothing to update, but here's where I'm at right now:
This evening I attended the campaign kick-off party for the single GOP candidate for State Attorney General (AG). At this party the GOP Chair introduced me to many behind the scenes people and they now all have my contact information.
One the the people I met indicated that "they" are aware that the is no chance of the GOP taking control of the legislature this time around - BUT, if we can just gain 4 more seats we'd be in better positions with committee's, etc.
The seat they're looking at me for is currently filled by a GOP incumbent (Ken DeGraaf, Colorado Congressional District 22), but as late as this evening he still hasn't announced whether or not he intended to run for re-election. He has until some time next month to officially decide. A rumor circulated amongst of few of those that Mr. DeGraaf is looking at assuming a role somewhere else. For now, it's all a waiting game.
I did get an opportunity to meet with a number of folks, some whose names you might recognize (especially for COS members) and even a few other non-incumbent candidates for state senate.
I'll say this, the ladies I shook hands with had a firmer grip than any of the men I shook hands with.

That does seem like an adequate summary of Republican leadership in our state for the last decade...
It's an uphill battle, but I salute you for taking it on. Given the opportunity, I'll do anything I can to assist your efforts!
