View Full Version : What are your Gun invention ideas?

I figure there are a lot of people here that spend a lot of thought on guns so there must be a lot of good innovation ideas.

So, tell us about some of the ideas you've got cookin!

I'll start:
What about a way to make a gun barrel not hold water. So that when you come up out of the water with your rifle pointed upwards, you don't have to take the time to point your muzzle down before firing. I'm thinking like a hole near the chamber that has some way of of shutting before the round passes by (like a small spring door that's pushed closed by the bullet and held shut with the high presure. Or mabye unlocking the bolt and pulling back the round a little by pushing the trigger forward and then advancing the bolt again by pulling back the trigger.

What are your ideas?

Get your own intellectual property asshole!

I've been thinking of a way to put two magazine tubes next to each other on the bottom of a pump or semi-auto shotgun. I'm going for doubling the capacity without doubling the length. I figure if you have them side by side, it will reduce the angle needed to feed onto the lever, compared to if you have an over/under mag style.

Like your idea, my idea has very limited market.

Samll x-ray screen top mounted to see thru stuff.

Rhineo, your idea is similar to ideas about sealing off a suppressor to help reduce first round pop. The difference is that you need something much more substantial to hold back water than you do to hold back atmosphere. I know that you can create a force field out of plasma that will separate atmosphere from a vacuum, but I don't know how shooting a bullet through it would effect the bullet.

Along this same line of thought, I used to think about ways to have a removable end cap for suppressors so you could just buy one for your largest caliber, then switch end caps for when you use your can on your smaller caliber pistols. You wouldn't be able to change the baffles with this method (nor are you allowed to possess extra baffles) but it would probably be significantly more quiet than shooting 9mm out of a .45 diameter hole. The best idea we discussed was using some sort of aperture that adjusts like the lens of a camera adjusts.

I put a gun on my gun so I can shoot while I shoot. Then Xzibit got word and stole the idea from me...

SRM Arms did that at SHOT Show 2008...

That's a freaking cool video Ridge. Not quite as fool proof as I was thinking though.

But the gun on the gun now needs its own gun.

I'm not saying. Hopefully one day you'll all be buying it though! You heard it first here so I'll cut you a deal.

Well I developed a laser gun with unlimited ammo that penetrates any material known to man whether it be a foot thick titanium wall or a large block of concrete. nothing fancy really, just something to toy around with.

Well, I still think my distance limited ammo which Foxtrot assures me is a ballistic impossibility, is pretty damn cool. If Sniper7 can have his lazer with limitless rounds, why can't I have a varmint bullet which will self destruct harmlessly after 400 yards?[ROFL2]

No, in my ammo fantasy world, a guy could buy 200, 300, 400, 500, yard ammo. Hell, since its fantasy world, he could just program it!

Well, the point of my ammo is to atomize the prarie rat effectively, but if I miss, I don't punch a hole in the rancher's cow who is standing 200 yds behind the P-dog vermin.

Can your lazer do that?[Coffee]

not quite, but if I miss, the cow will be pre-cut into perfectly tenderized steak pre-cooked at rare to med-rare. all you need is a baked potato and dinner is served[Coffee]

Honestly I have been thinking about something similar. clothing that is basically a LCD screen, sensors throughout that are covered by the screens but collect the colors and patterns of the surrounding area and create a camo pattern based upon the sensor input. much a chameleon.

only issues are see are weight, damage and the processor location/weight/size.
It is hard enough to keep your cell phone screen protected let alone your entire body while in combat.
either way, ideas gotta start somewhere![Beer]

wow I have never seen that before.

yeah that is pretty much what I am talking about, except it would be able to be taken into the field be it in the desert, the snow, the rain etc and create a camo pattern similar to the surroundings

Oh I thought of another one. Someone was telling me about mini shells for 12 gauge that are basically like half the length of a 3" shell. So you can obviously fit more of them in your mag tube (as opposed to getting an extension) but apparently they don't feed very well. This was in one of my many conversations about the merits of and SBS for home defense. I'm under the impression that once the mini shell pops out of the tube mag, there is too much room on that little paddle that snaps it up into the receiver (but I haven't handled them so I'm not sure why they don't feed well). Anyway, I was thinking that it'd be easy enough to modify an extra lever to feed the mini shells with more reliability. Anyone have any first hand experience with these to tell me if I'm thinking about this the right way or not?
