I'm not a big podcast person. I want to be able to read it, and possibly save some of the info into a word doc for later perusal. But having a thread for this sort of info, especially specific to Colorado, could be very useful. So I vote yes. Like I said in the other thread, I don't want a million off subject threads, but this one does fit fairly well and could be very useful. We have a job openings sticky, for heaven's sake.

I voted yes, because too much info is better than too little. I'm a middle-of-the-road kinda guy on this matter. I like being prepared, but I'm not digging a bomb shelter into the side of a hill in the mountains either. Having a couple of containers of stuff to grab on the way out of the area is far from a bad idea. Then again getting 6 heavily armed friends and just taking over the local wal-mart and turning it into a base camp isn't a bad idea either.

Sure...why not?

We got very close to buggin' out back in 02 during a fire. Had all the important stuff in the trailer, trailer hooked up and the truck was running. One of the P3 bombers made a couple of passes so close over the house that we were covered in fire retardant. That type of info could come in handy during a disaster type situation.

Here's a very good website with lots or real-world, practical advice: http://www.theplacewithnoname.com/blogs/klessons/

Heck yeah. Some place to get better ideas for a bug out bag (BoB), water & food considerations, navigating traffic situations in case of evac, etc.

I was watching a commercial this morning from Pur water filters and a program they have for providing purification to third-world nations. I wondered what I'd do in both short and long term if we lost our city water system.

I am the one that brought this up. I do not wear any tinfoil. My leanings are more to the preparedness side of things. I am NOT a grab your knife and BOB to go to the woods kind of guy.

It is very simple. ;)

I would say yes to this.

I travel back and forth on I-76 to Nebraska for college and you never know when a snow storm or break down can happen. I carry multi tools, knifes, MRE's two or three of them, water, first aid kit, lighter, gloves, warm hat, and jacket, ect...

Like people have said in this fourm, I would rather have something I don't use than not have it and have a need for it. This is just how I go about doing things.

If someone comes up with new ideas or info you can't go wrong with knowing more.

On the note of having things you don't need. I have some road flares in my car and I don't even know how to light them. They are cheap enough for me to practice with, but since I live in an apartment, I don't know what I'd do with the flare for the rest of the 29 minutes and 30 seconds it lasts after I light it.

I voted yes- while there are plenty of places on the web where you can see info on this subject, they are from dubious/unknown sources, and you don't know their situation..

survival/preparedness is related to context- you wouldn't prepare for survival in Alaska the same way you would in the tropics, now would you?

and there are some on this board that I know are more qualified that someone I have nobody to vouch for... I haven't met many from here, but in general the tinfoil types don't last long on this board..

See, I knew that YOU, if anyone here, would have a solid answer for that. So, when the thread/forum starts, I look forward to the details.

In the mean time, I've been planning on using these cold winter months to finally use your plans for building solar panels.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Jerry, you've got game!

I voted yes. I think it is related to the context of the forum. Everyone on here seems to be somewhat like-minded. I always like to see what people are doing that I can do better when it comes to that sort of stuff.

But I also don't wear any tin hats or dig bomb shelters

I say no, cause there are tons of places already to get the required information.

However, I'll say yes this time if it stays to information relating to surviving here in CO and not in the swamps of GA or FL or something I probably won't be anytime soon.

"ll say yes this time if it stays to information relating to surviving here in CO "

+1 with Big Bear on this. There are a lot of great resources out there for general SHTF scenrios, but one focused towards Colorado would be unique.

I say yes, being prepared is more then BOB and guns. There are practical reasons to know advanced first aid, navigation, hasty shelters, etc. As long as its something that I might encounter while driving, hunting, just living life. So yes, lets share our "Boy Scout" ideas, lessons learned, and make fun of the little tin foil hats.

Tinfoil hats? I can make 'em. [LOL]

Serious info about what to cache for "shelter in place" situations, BOB(or in my case, Bug Out Tub) contents, first aid classes, resources, etc. would be welcome.

Colorado has much different needs than other states. I think a state-specific forum for us is a good idea.

I'm voting yes.

Survival and preparedness are important to me. Self sufficency (sp?) is also high on my list.

I like this forum more than others I have visited or participated in previously. I think we have a good mix of guys here and we learn from eachother about a number of different things, not just guns..

For example, I learned a couple of things about insurance from Stuart and I have helped a couple of guys with plumbing issues..

I see this board as not just a source of information, but as a place to make some friends. Since most of us are in Colorado, there is a good chance some of us will actually shoot together and so forth. Why not broaden the scope of our discussions? Lord knows we talk about everything in the General Discussion area anyway....

Some things are universal but some are very unique to us. I don't think anyone in the southern states has ever thought of "skin moisturizer" as an essential item. ;)

I'm interested in reading a ton of stuff, but that doesn't mean I know anything worth posting. Question is, do we have enough knowledgeable people to make threads for the section? That really no reason not to create it though. Sometimes a topic (like this one) is important enough where a dead forum is better than no forum.

Lots of folks know bits and pieces that don't necessarily come out until they have a reason for it. Or they remember something when they're reading a post, something they wouldn't necessarily post otherwise.
